On day 3 and just finished a mug of Marigold Bouillon drink. 1teasp in mug of boiling water = 12 calories. Really nice - satisfied my urge for something savoury and much lower in calories than my usual chicken noodle soup from Sainsburys which is also very good but comes in at 59 calories. And it's organic

Good isn't it, I'd be lost without my drink of Marigold bouillon in the afternoon!
I make broth using half a stock cube and spices. Only 3,5 calories and great taste.
I've been wanting to substitute my evening meal on a fast day with something like this bouillon that you're chatting about - I've gone through my store cupboards and found some Knorr veg stock pots - they come up at about 20 cals per mug - I must say they're pretty tasty - think this might help me through this evening as I'm trying to do a 36 hour fast with no food. Think I may have cracked it - thanks ladies
I like my Marigold too. It takes the edge off when you're hungry. Best of all its gluten free. Most cup soups contain gluten so they're off the menu for me. You can get a bit sick of tea, coffee and water.
Absolutely agree with you Miffy.
I've never heard of Marigold (I'm an Aussie)
Is it an alternative to the usual stock cubes?
What's in it?
Thanks.

Hi Marie2mil - I am an Aussie too (now)and like you didn't know about Marigold (they didn't have them in England when I left many moons ago - just good old Oxo cubes), but have just found this http://www.marigold-health-foods.com.au/home_page.htm so looks as if its off to the health food shops for us.
But there is also for us: http://www.massel.com.au/products_consumer.shtml
I do use these products (Woolies certainly, cant remember if have bought from Coles) but will now rush of the cupboard and check on calories - just done - unfortunately have thrown away the packet for the stock cubes as they are all in a jar but have various tins of stock powder and the vegetable stock shows 150ml is 3.6 calories. So that looks good for those hungry moments.

Anything is better than cup a soup!
I resort to bovril. Brings back my childhood

In US I use Miso Soup, too - it does have 25 calories, some protein, GF, vegan, no MSG, no saturated fats, sugar or cholesterol. Miso is fermented - considered living food - organic soybeans - my powder has some mushrooms powder and herbs in it too. sodium is pretty low. -
I like Miso too-
Thanks CMCE - Marigold sounds great, I see you're in Sydney so you probably have a better chance of finding some than me in little ole Adelaide BUT I'm still going to scour the Health shops for sure. Thanks again for the link.

I like the Vogel or Swiss Nature Brand. I find that the Swiss Nature ones are usually available at Coles or Woolies in the health food isle, alternatively check out your local health food shop.. Just watch the salt levels for those who are watching their sodium intake. The Vogel brand has a low salt version.
Also keep an eye on the serving size. One cube makes 500mL of stock so for a mug I use only half a cube, for approx 17 cals.

If you find Marigold in Adelaide Marie, can you let us know. I would like to try it as well.
If you're an ex-pat and miss all the good British stuff, you can use this shop:
http://www.britishcornershop.co.uk/
They charge shipping by the box which turns out very cheap if you buy lots of stuff. They have Marigold...

I made carrot and coriander soup yesterday to get me through the day , I worked it out at about 25 calories per mug and it was lovely. I used 2 tins of Carrots a veg stock cube , water and fresh coriander my hubby loved it too
I never found a Cup a Soup that I could like, have never heard of Marigold, except they make gloves. I am a fan of Miso soup for fast days, and use Wakame Miso Soup made by Yutaka.
