Superdrug & Lighter Life

I've just been reading an article about Superdrug launching 5:2 meal replacements made by Lighterlife (sorry don't know how to include a link).

I have to say that they sound revolting, but I wondered how long it would be before one of the diet companies would jump on the bandwagon.

It sort of takes away the simplicity of a fast day. I find fasting very cleansing so the last thing I would want is a meal replacement full of god knows what ingredients.

Strange that people might want a meal replacement instead of having a easily prepared 500 cal meal with lots of veg at the end of a day of FASTING! lol

I bet they won't be the first either and lots of other food manufacturers will now jump on the waggon given the success and spread of the 5:2 diet.

To me this seems just SO WRONG, it isn't what the diet is about! It's a pity we probably haven't got enough clout to stop them! :curse:

They do not educate you on how to eat... properly.
Once you stop them you are at a loss what to eat.
I am totally against them.

So there!

I agree with everything said, don't see the point but as 5:2 is not a brand name I suppose anyone can jump on the band wagon.

And Holland & Barrett have a full page ad in their latest mag forThe Lemon Detox which "combines 100% natural ingredients to provide a carefully prepared balance of nutrients and minerals; giving 500 calories of vital energy to support those short periods of fasting."

There are various companies out there doing 5:2 meal replacements. I tried some from Exante when they asked me to and I wasn't keen at all. If I'm going to have a 'quick and easy' option for a fast day (what's quicker and easier than an omelette? or grilled chicken & veg?!) I'd rather have a readymeal than some manufactured nonsense full of artificial things but claiming to be nutritious. I don't think we'll die if we don't get such and such a nutrient each and every day, many of us probably didn't when we were eating badly anyway. We get plenty of goodness from our plants & protein :)

What do you reckon guys - shall I take up their offer and give them a try????

Up to you. I know I regretted offering to try the Exante ones because I didn't want to eat them on a fast day when I was looking forward to a proper, tasty fasting meal, and I didn't want to eat them on a feed day when I could eat real food.

Up to you really!

I would prefer not to. I'd rather put together a quick healthy meal for myself. I find it quite cleansing and I know what I am eating.
