On the road to a healthier me

Progress

by AiriR on 17 Jul 2013, 12:47

With today's weigh-in, my BMI dropped below 27 and my weight is now below 70 kg (154.3 pounds) for the first time in ages. I still have 5 kg (about 11 pounds) to go to my initial goal and it's kind of surprising to me that I'm here at this point, already. Obviously when I started on 5:2 back in March, I was hoping it would work well for me but I don't think I dared hope for the kind of success I've had. A friend commented on a photo of me on Instagram last week, saying I looked 'tiny'- I know I'm far from tiny but it did feel nice to hear that. And I'm really enjoying how I can take anything out of my wardrobe now, put it on and like how I look in the mirror. Shopping is once again fun, and I head straight for the bright colours, not feeling a need to 'hide' in black anymore. I feel like I have my life back and it's strange because I don't think I fully realised how much of an impact the extra weight was having on my life.

In three weeks I'm going away for the weekend, attending a special event I have been going to every year for the past five years BUT this year will be different because I now have the confidence to get dressed up in period costume and know I will look good and actually ENJOY posing for photos.

I would love to be able to give Michael Mosley a hug - he changed my life.

Dear AiriR, your blog is an inspiration to see how you progressed through these months. Thank you for sharing. :like:

Has the new BMI and the weight loss this far all been achieved only by 5:2 or you have significantly increased your activity levels too? :geek:

All the best with your personal journey and progress towards your goals,
Saeed

Thank you for your lovely comment Saeed. I am happy to hear that my experience is inspiring others on 5:2, as it has made such a huge difference in my life. In answer to your question, the only thing I've changed in my life since starting with 5:2 is the way I eat. I have been doing an hour of kundalini yoga a week for the past three and a half years and have always walked to get to places as I don't drive but other than that, I don't exercise. In my experience, losing weight is first and foremost about what you eat, and exercise is about keeping your body working and toned.

The best of luck to you too!
