All thunked out!

by Bobshouse on 03 Jul 2014, 18:47

I know, not a real word but how I feel just now. I have been giving a lot of thought to my diet and where I go from here. Firstly, I am going to continue to fast, this is an important part of my life now. I will not always succeed but I will keep trying. Secondly, I am returning to my vegetarian lifestyle. I started eating meat for my hubby who likes to eat out. French restaurants on the whole have a problem with vegetarian food. I have now found a source of veggie sausages etc which will help. I also have the River Cottage veg cook book to find things to cook from scratch that I can source here. It will not be easy but I have never been haapy being a meat eater. It has felt like I was being untrue to myself. As of today no meat. I have a sense of relief.
I am also going to eat more fruit and veg to replace the cake and bicuits. I am not saying I will never make or eat another cake just I will not always have cake in the tins. It is dangerous for me to ban any food ( other than meat) permanently. This is why fasting suits me...I can eat it tomorrow.
So, 4:3 it is for now until at least I am back in control. One day or fast at a time.

In for repair Monday, Wednesday and Friday
learning to love life as it is

Hi, Bobshouse! I am also a vegetarian (ovo-lacto; just can't seem to give up the cheese!). As to being untrue to yourself, I understand...a coworker asked me why I was veg, and I told him, it's a relief NOT to feel like a hypocrite...since I'm rabidly against animal cruelty etc. (we--my son and I--eat only free range eggs, so....). I am lucky, here in the western U.S., I am spoiled with lots of veggie choices. When my sister went veggie 40 years ago, her choices were french fries (which were probably fried with meat!), baked potato, or salads. I'm too much a foodie to give up yumminess...sure wish I could recommend some of the "vegetarian meats" (we call it "fake meat") available here; my fave is a newish company called Beyond Meat; their "chickenless strips" are the mainstay of my fast day dinners! Good luck on your journey!

I have my own chickens and ducks, free range and organic so a good supply of eggs. I will be experimenting with beans and veg featuring lots of herbs and spices. It is animal cruelty that made me veggie too when I was 18 and able to choose for myself. I have never had a problem cooking meat for the family but am not happy eating it myself.
