As the sun starts to set....

by Bobshouse on 24 Jun 2014, 19:23

Thought I should write something as I do not want any of you to think I have given up! It has been a very low day again. Was meant to be out this evening but cancelled as cannot cope with people.
Had a pleasant morning. We went to a local village to see a photo exhibition. We knew they were on display but had trouble finding them. Went into the mayors office to enquire and it was the usual grumpy, unhelpful receptionist you find the world over. Are they trained to be that way? All she said was 'sur le batiment en face' which means ' on the building opposite' . Failing to find them we stopped at a cafe for a coffee.....wrong again, the coffee machine was carried out as we sat down. So it was water. Someone we knew came in who lives in this village so we asked him about the photos. He said to go to the tourist office and ask for a route map. A very helpful young man gave us the map and showed us the sign that marks where each picture is. They were up high on the buildings. It would have helped if the receptionist had said haute or high! It was a lovely walk around a pretty village.
This afternoon I have wallowed too much. Tried to download books onto my new kindle to be told 'for UK residents only'. Amazon told me to download their iPad app. Ok, did it.....all in French because it knows I am in France! There are times when I really feel I am not meant to live here.
Managed it in the end by going to .com rather than .UK. So I am currently reading Pride and Prejudice, a much loved book that was free. I have down loaded Little Women to read next, also free. Have to say I love my kindle.
This evening I fought my way through the weeds in the veggie patch and picked lots of raspberries and black currants. Hubby will eat the raspberries and I will freeze the black currants with others ready to make jam once I have enough.
Then I did the PVA coat on the back wall of my fireplace. Will do the final coat of paint tomorrow. I am very pleased with how it looks. Makes a big difference.
Have spoken to hubby about tactics to make life better for me. I will have to keep reminding him of our plan. Rather than devote all our time and resources into completing the other gites we are going to divide the week so that a day is spent improving our home, a day in the garden and a day or part of going out. The rest will be spent on the gites.
Food wise, a fairly good feed day as I didn't really feel like eating. Hope it won't be a problem with my fast tomorrow.
