Looking for some light at the end of the tunnel

by Bobshouse on 30 Mar 2013, 19:54

Another grim day. This bout of depression is one of the worst I have experienced for a long time. I have to grab the controls of my life as this cannot continue. I am eating too much of the wrong stuff which is not helping me. Next week I am going to fast three days, Monday, Wednesday and Friday to help me get control. After that I will go back to my usual two days.
I feel I have to stop eating biscuits, factory made ones that is, as I do not know when to stop. I am also picking too much, anything really, bits of cheese, dried fruit. I am not helping myself so this has to stop. I am an intelligent, practical and strong person and I have grabbed control of my life before, I can do so again.

In for repair Monday, Wednesday and Friday
learning to love life as it is

Keep in there Bobshouse! They reckon the first few weeks are the worst.... Just think of summer days looming on the horizon & a slimmer and healthier you enjoying the sunshine!
I hear you...the depression part is familiar to me too, especially when there are free moments to start thinking. Perhaps you can get outside and enjoy nature if spring has come to your environs. That can have an uplifting influence on me at any rate. I can't have any dogs where I live now but in the past they were often a big help to me too.
Hi Bobshouse. Depression is hard. Have you been to a doctor? Get a prescription for medication. The little pills help me, to stay normal. As for the food, can you put the biscuits, dried fruit in a freezer, or throw them out. Keep the bad stuff out of sight. Treat yourself to something happy to you.
Hi Bobshouse - what is it that causes you to have that depressing feeling? Is it guilt or something else? (no answer needed, by reading the question you will already have your answer).
As you say - you are a practical, strong and intelligent woman - I invite you to take 10-15 minutes of time for self and think about using your strength and intelligence to now right down a practical way of stopping the habit of picking at food. Good luck and pop here with what your answers are please :-)
I have suffered from depression since teenage years. An abusive childhood, being dumped in care, you get the picture. I have had medication in the past but felt like a zombie so took the decision to go it alone. This has been a particularly bad bout probably made worse by such a long winter. There are lots of good things on the horizon I just need to be patient. I agree with animal therapy, my mad Boxer/Mastiff is snuggled next to me as I type and I have said good morning to the four cats, 10 ducks, 10 duck eggs under a duck, 9 chickens, 3 chicks, 9 chicken eggs in the incubator and 1 rabbit! Is that going a bit too far?
