Hi Janet! Read your post after searching the forum for osteoarthritis as I've recently had my right knee xrayed and been diagnosed with it. Had mild stiffness and pain on and off for about 9 years, but since I started the 5:2 it seemed to be getting worse. I had expected an improvement, but realised that my swimming was aggravating it as I only really feel confident doing breaststroke. The doctor has advised against that as it can stress the knee, so have been feeling gutted for the last week as the swimming was making me feel great in every other way. Determined not to give up though - have lost 24 pounds so far and still have another stone or so to go. Joined the gym last night, so going to stick to the bike and rowing machine, and the cross trainer to boost fat burning (I hope!!). My knee has improved since I stopped breaststroke, using voltarol gel 3 times a day. I really hope that it will improve further!! Would love to know how you get on too - best of luck with your hip. Had a lovely boost this morning as I've just had my weekly weigh in and I've lost 2 pounds!

Oh and forgot to say, I too have found that my almost daily indigestion and need for Rennies has virtually disappeared. Can't be bad! X

Fast day 22 thoughts
by Joyful Janet on 11 Apr 2013, 13:02
Since 21 st January I have lost 6 lbs and 1.5 inches off my waist; I have successfully done 21 fasts. It's 11 1/2 weeks since I started and I know I will continue to have fasting days in my life.
Fasting has become more important to me since I was diagnosed with osteoarthritis. Losing weight can only make me fitter and healthier, and fasting may help to fight inflammation, reduce pain and slow the progression.
I have experienced a great improvement in my digestive system, no more painful wind, indigestion or constipation.
I have stopped eating the low fat way that I have followed for much of my life. Welcome back butter!
Eating 400 cal evening meal & 80 cal milky bedtime drink on fast days
