Celebrating life

by AiriR on 05 Jun 2013, 15:10

I have now been on 5:2 for twelve weeks, and am way beyond pleased at how well it's working for me. I have lost a total of 11.5 kg so far, and 17 cm off my waist. I still have at least 8.5 kg and 11 cm to go but am actually starting to feel ok about my shape for the first time in a long while. I have been lucky enough to see a drop in my weight every week and that has kept me motivated; I hope that continues!

It was my birthday last week and yes, I did celebrate it. I had wine and cake and chocolate and all manner of yummy things, and I enjoyed every sip and morsel without guilt. By a rough estimate I consumed at least double my TDEE on my birthday and went over it somewhat with pizza and wine on the weekend, and I still recorded a loss of 0.6 kg (1.3 pounds) this morning at my weekly weigh-in. That is why I love this way of eating: it allows me to live my life like a normal person. Celebrations are a part of life and should be able to be enjoyed without guilt and calorie counting!

I have done the last four Monday fasts as liquids-only and find myself settling into the habit of having a zero-calorie 'repair' day after the weekend and quite enjoying it. In general I feel fantastic and have lots more energy, and people are starting to comment on how well I look. I think a lot of people are hesitant to make weight-loss related comments as it can be such a sensitive area but I don't really mind, for me this is about how I feel and what I see in the mirror!

This is fantastic, AiriR. I have not experienced this steady weight loss and I wish I had. I am trying to just keep the faith and carry on. You have done so well and it is great to read about it.

Hi Airir,
I'm totally with you on the lack of guilt and the great feeling that comes with this WOE. I haven't had such a weigh loss as yourself but nonetheless I still feel fabulous and think I'm looking better each week :) (nothing like self-confidence, hey?!!)
I hope that you enjoy the journey to goal. I have 11 kilos still to go and I hope to enjoy the rote no matter how long it may take x

I've been having trouble posting here, not sure if it's an iPhone/iPad issue or my lack of technical knowledge... Anyway, here's another go on the PC!

Thank you Sally and Kelly! I have been very fortunate with the way 5:2 has worked for me so far. I'm wondering if my lack of dieting history (I last dieted more than ten years ago) is one factor in my success? I'm also mindful what I eat on my feast days; while I usually have what I like, I try and stay around my TDEE - except one day a week when I let my hair down! I think life needs to be enjoyed, and this is the only 'diet' I know of that let's you do that, guilt-free!

I wish you both the best of success!
