Keeping myself honest in Oz!

by OZCAZ on 24 Apr 2013, 22:42

Thursday 25/4 Going really well by not overdoing intake yesterday but did increase activity by spending an hour trimming a very overgrown head height hedge ..nice Autumn day for it but certainly worked up an appetite so I made a small amount of Damper with grated parmesan cheese for a late lunch ..(it sat so heavily in my stomach that I wasn't hungry & actually felt uncomfortable all evening..used normal s/raising flour instead of gluten free, so cld be the reason).
Today I've found my normal 2 cups of black tea & a few glasses of water have taken the edge off so I'll be having m cooked brown rice, red quinoa with a small handful of soaked dried fruit (2 apricots, 2 prunes, cranberries, sultanas). I'll add a dollop of non-fat Greek yoghurt & a little rice milk. All up about a cup which keeps me happily chugging along until a very light lunch of asian green veg & tofu soup.
Feeling the benefits of an energy increase already & a lifting of Black Dog after getting in the garden yesterday & doing some physical work.
I'm glad I froze the remaining Damper as soon as it was cooked yesterday ..for 2 good reasons 1) it is yeast free so it goes rock hard quickly & 2) out of harm's way.
I'm enjoying finding my own 'Off Switch' for food & 'On Switch' for moving!

Nice to say hello to another Aussie!

I find 'real' flour is harder to digest than gluten free. I'm also wondering about whether yeast in bread makes a difference (to me anyway).

I like your recipe with the rice, quinoa and soaked fruit - it sounds like a great choice if I'm feeling like comfort food.

All the best with your 5:2 journey.
Tks so much ARJ52..I love my rice porridge with all the extras, now also adding a few chopped almonds, chia seeds, sunflower seeds & whatever else is handy. The juice from the soaked dried fruits is the sweetener. I'm kee[ing extra cooked brown rice in the 'fridge as a quick 'go-to' ..add to a mug of miso, to stir-fry vegies etc. I'm becoming very organised! & good luck to you too.
