Learning all the time!

by PennyForthem on 23 Oct 2014, 11:45

I have achieved a major goal! I have gone through holidays and the food festival season without putting the weight back on - or, if I have gained a few pounds, I've learned not to ignore it, but to take action and lose it straight away.
No food has been banned, just mindfully eaten. Chips? I've had a few... Chocs... too few to mention. But eat them I have!
Since my last blog entry, I can count on one hand the times my daily carbs have gone over 100g. This is definitely the secret of success for me.
I recently had the pleasure of spending time with @silverdarling, who reminded me that my wardrobe is woefully and deeply dated and sad. She took me shopping, suggesting styles that I'd never normally consider. It was quite an eye opener for me! I bought a dress! And a jacket! And became aware that I was still dressing a 213lb (69.6kg) woman, not a size 12, 143lb (64.8kg) one!
And this in itself made me realise that weight loss is not just about... well, weight loss,...

And nearly 18 months on from joining the forum...

by PennyForthem on 02 Jun 2014, 16:19

I have been very remiss and not updated my blog for some time. That shall be remedied!

I was dancing for joy, back in January, as I'd achieved the dizzying lows of 10.9lbs and was very happy to maintain this. Imagine my pleasure when, week by week, little by little, my weight dropped by another 6lbs to take me to 10 3lbs (143lbs).

I have now lost 33% of my initial start weight of 15st 3lbs, (213lbs), a whopping 70lbs in total. Not all of this has been achieved through 5 2, as I struggled to lose 14lbs or so before finding this way of eating. That still leaves a very healthy loss of 56lbs in a little over a year.

But this forum isn't only about 5 2, it's about support, friendship, safely being able to ask questions without seeming a fool and sharing positive experiences.

I'm now happily in size 12 (UK) and regularly being ignored by friends I've not seen for sometime, "because they didn't think it was me!!".

I now know 'what works for me' and, armed with that knowledge, I...

Losing weight, giving up alcohol... and now EXERCISING?

by PennyForthem on 24 Jan 2014, 11:15

What is wrong with me?

Seriously, my Dryathlon challenge is going very well and I have lost about 3lbs in the last week.
Not only that, but I'm sleeping through the night (makes me sound like a baby, doesn't it?) and waking more refreshed!
I'm dreaming of summer now and nice summer clothes, not the all enveloping, baggy T shirts of previous years. However, I've realised I need to do something to tighten up the midriff area and what else can I fall back on, but the dreaded exercise!
I was clearing around the treadmill yesterday (it makes a good area for propping stuff on!) and hopped on it, still wearing my slippers. Not recommended!
Fitbit gave a disappointing step reading of around 1800 for about 15 mins brisk-ish walking. Now, I'm not one to do things half heartedly, so if I'm going to exercise, I'm going to exercise!
I have bought the kindle version of 'Fast exercise' and was thoroughly engrossed in it, up to bedtime last night (probably accounted for the good night's sleep!).
We have...

My honest 'Dryathlon blog'

by PennyForthem on 20 Jan 2014, 14:09

My Dryathlon blog, for my cousin
Beginning of week 2
Like many a habit, it started innocently and crept up insidiously. I've always enjoyed a drink in the evening and hub and I would sit companionably with some wine or a spirit and mixer , unwinding and watching TV.
But two things happened last year, which I can see were catalysts for my decision, though I couldn't see it at the time.
First of all, we had a lovely summer; cocktails and aperitifs with friends or by ourselves, wine with a barbe and sundowners watching the sunset. All very 'innocent' and it carried on during the weekends, then weekdays, from July into November - and then it was Christmas.
Secondly, I lost my beloved cousin to the ravages of alcoholism.

We enjoyed Christmas to the full and several bottles of interesting things sat on the drinks tray. Being a tidy soul, I was intent on finishing them, sometimes having a comforting snifter while I cooked the meal. I was still losing weight, so was allowing for an alcohol allowance...

Dear Stomach,

by PennyForthem on 27 Dec 2013, 11:31

Ok, I'm still under my target weight - just! I'd wanted a little 'wiggle room' over Christmas, so I lost another 4lbs, but I've wiggled a lot and used most of it up.
I count myself very fortunate this year, in many ways: a supportive hubs, a lovely family, job I love and... food on the table. Truly lucky.
But I also enjoy my new lighter self and don't want to return to blubberland, so, in writing this, I'm giving myself a kick up the whatsit and a not too gentle reminder that I can't eat like I've eaten for the past 2 days and not put it back on.
It's been a hard road at times to lose it and it would be a very easy U turn; in fact, my stomach is rumbling now and I'm salivating at the thought of a roast dinner.
But no, dear stomach, you will not have your own way this time.
I have a delicious chickpea and veggie curry planned for this evening, so none of this 'feeling deprived' lark, please.

In fact, dear stomach, you and I are going to lose another half stone or...
