Maintenance Mundanities

I'm in maintenance but still whittling down my body fat levels in order to achieve a reasonable body composition. I have very low muscle mass so, although I have a low scale weight and look slender, I have an unwelcome kinship with streaky bacon, except that the bacon has a more favourable fat:lean ratio.

Not Perfect: Tim Minchin

by SSure on 05 Sep 2014, 11:09

I've just quoted a Tim Minchin song, Not Perfect.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exwn6fuF9y0

I think of it every time I hear someone who is discontented with the body that takes them from one place to another and allows them to experience the world around them. I'm not sure how much we would naturally disparage our bodies if we weren't given so many cues to despise their tiny (and larger) flaws and exposed to images of Photoshopped or otherwise manipulated perfection (according to some social mores).

I was fortunate enough to attend one of Tim Minchin's shows and there are parts of this song that have women openly sobbing (I think this shows up in the DVD of one of his London shows in the clip above).

This is my body
And I live in it
It's [31 years and 6 months] old
It's changed a lot since it was new
It's done stuff it wasn't meant to do
I often try to fill it up with wine
And the weirdest thing about it is
I spend so much time hating it
But it never says a bad word about me

This is my body
And it's fine
It's where I spend the vast majority of my time
It's not perfect
But it's mine
It's not perfect...

HW: 168lbs (2011) CW: 102lbs BMI: <19
Maintenance IF 4:3

Dexa scan reports that I have low skeletal muscle mass and I'm categorised as sarcopenic, despite my age and fitness activities: body composition changed from 42% body fat at 127lbs to 20% at 103lbs.
