Maintenance Mundanities

I'm in maintenance but still whittling down my body fat levels in order to achieve a reasonable body composition. I have very low muscle mass so, although I have a low scale weight and look slender, I have an unwelcome kinship with streaky bacon, except that the bacon has a more favourable fat:lean ratio.

Planning for surgery

by SSure on 15 Aug 2014, 11:46

Just thinking that I like 4:3 so much because it works with my kayaking activities.

I've picked up several musculo-skeletal problems (not kayaking-related) that might reduce my level of physical activity if I have them surgically corrected because the rehab period seems fairly extensive (my consultation about that is the week after next).

The surgery is likely to be over a fairly protracted period as it will probably only be practical to have work done on one knee/shoulder at a time. If I have to opt for the surgery, I'd be so relatively sedentary during recovery that I would probably need to revert to ADF as my schedule.

Given the state of my body composition and low muscle mass, any gains that I made during recovery/rehab would be body fat and particularly unhelpful. So, if ADF weren't sufficient, I'd probably need to take a look at introducing a fasting window on 'normal' days, and, if I continued to gain, then I might need to plan ahead for any WOE tweaks. And I'd need to do it before the surgery as the chances of my DH/family suddenly learning: i) to cook ii) to prepare appropriate meals
are unfeasibly slim. :)

This came to mind when I was commenting how important it is to have a WOE/exercise level that we enjoy and that we can tweak when life demands it. It suddenly occurred to me that life may be demanding this quite soon.

ETA: I've just had a mini-meltdown as I realised just how dependent I will be on my DH. Realistically, that's not going to work. His spirit is willing but he's demonstrated amply that if things are left up to him, they're just not done. I'm going to have to give this a lot of thought.

HW: 168lbs (2011) CW: 102lbs BMI: <19
Maintenance IF 4:3

Dexa scan reports that I have low skeletal muscle mass and I'm categorised as sarcopenic, despite my age and fitness activities: body composition changed from 42% body fat at 127lbs to 20% at 103lbs.
