It's a Strategy

by SmokyMtns on 30 Apr 2013, 12:52

Whew! Got through my very first fast day. The only thing that really helped was delaying my breakfast as long as I could (which amazingly was a rather long time) and drinking tons of water with lots of lemon in it. I'm not a water drinker; in fact I really dislike drinking water at all, but the lemon addition was really great. I even had hot water with lemon in it for my early morning "coffee" and it was very refreshing. For lunch I had mesculin greens with 3 tiny slices of chicken and half an apple; however, since I eat in a school cafeteria, I think the greens are sprayed with that stuff that keeps them looking fresh because that salad did NOT agree with me at all and I was rather sick last night. I'm going to bring something else on fast days here at school.I also had a nagging headache all day yesterday but think that was caffeine withdrawal. Had a pan seared chicken breast and Brussel sprouts for dinner.

I swear I felt thinner this morning, but I refuse to be a slave to the scale and will only hop on it once a week. I'm not going to let that instrument of Satan determine how I feel about myself. For the most part I'm going to let my clothes tell me how well I'm doing.

Going to enjoy myself today and try to let my stomach and not my head determine my hunger and my level of satiety!

Day one down. Woo hoo! I have taken that first step on my thousand mile jouney!

So you are quitting caffeine at the same time that you started fasting? Are you mad?

I hate water as well. On fast days, I drink my morning coffee with 2T (I weigh it) of half and half, and then a glass of iced green tea, both sweetened with liquid stevia (I probably use too much of this in a day, but hey one vice at a time). Then I only fast while at work, so I take two 50oz bottles that each have a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a couple squirts of stevia (oh again!). the ACV helps to reduce water retention which is an issue for me, but the water also tastes sort of like apple cider. then when I get home at 4:30 I have 4oz greek yogurt and 70g of blueberries (weighed) and again with stevia. For dinner I make a pouch of foil and put in veggies and a protein, usually fish, and herbs and spices and bake. Then more tea after dinner.

A headache could mean you need some salt, odd I know, but I have seen many who have had a cup of bouillon (not low sodium)-so drop a cube of Knorr into a cup of water and have that at lunch.

congrats on your first day!

Chris,

I guess I am mad and thanks for the tip on the salt thing. Never thought about that. Just figured it was a caffeine withdrawal. But this morning after my second fast day that coffee smelled extra special wonderful and I enjoyed every drop. I have some pretty bad nasal allergies and the pollen this spring has killed me, so I take 2 tsps of local hone in my coffee.
