Good luck, Tammae. I have travelled and fasted, last year, when I went to my sister's place in Sydney. I think I mostly just missed breakfast and lunch and didn't drink wine with dinner. It wasn't too hard. And it's especially good to have the days between when you can eat what you like. As for family's disapproval, I have that too with one of my sons and his gf. They disapprove strongly. Well, I just keep losing weight and they don't say anything. Eventually, when I am at my goal weight, they probably still won't say anything : not 'l was wrong' or 'Congratulations'. It will just go into the pile of unspoken subjects. Oh well. I wish I had better relationships with my family but I just have to live my life and accept what comes my way.
Sallyo, I totally relate. Maybe when my family notices the weight loss I will deal with telling them about the Fast Diet. Until then...I will not start up the conversation Guess I will adapt.
Thank you for the suggestions and I will definitely skip breakfast. Don't know about lunch...that will be a daily struggle.

Re: the lunch--if you are doing most of the food prep, can you slyly make lunch something that can easily be bulked up for the non-fasters? Such as a nice big salad (good in summer anyway) that you can have plain, but dress up with cheese bacon whatever for them? And if you are a long-time dieter (you don't give us your stats, so I don't know where you are weight-wise), seems they shouldn't question your having a leaner version.

Rewards better than Food.
by Tammae on 12 Jul 2014, 14:29
The biggest surprise to me is how fantastic I feel the morning after the fast. When I started this journey I thought I would eat all my day's calories at breakfast after fasting. I am so intrigued by the way my appetite decreases naturally and I fill up so quickly. I am learning to eat slower and enjoy my foods. Best of all...I have self-control for the first time in my life. I love this reward better than the weight loss (although that is very nice too).
Next week is a worry for me, however, as I do not want to go back to old habits of overeating and loose the rewards of fasting. I will be traveling and staying with family where I do most of the cooking. I will do 16:8 if I need to but hopefully I can fast a couple of days. My family does not know I am fasting and at this point I prefer to keep it that way. I don't want to listen to the "you are starving yourself" speech and that this is the only reason I am losing weight. When I started it was all about the weight. Now it is all about health, self-control, and general well-being.
If anyone reading this has words of wisdom for me I would love to hear them. If you have fasted and traveled, vacationed, or spent periods of days without fasting please give me your tricks of the trade. Much appreciated... : )
I eat a Low Carb Diet and do 5:2. It's working. God is good!
