Having your cake ...
Well yesterday I did - twice. On a Ramblers walk, we first stopped at one tea shop and I bought a slab of ginger cake, drank green tea and waited till my window opened at 2, ate a Babybel so as not to start off with carbs, and then had the ginger cake.
The group arrived at the pick-up point early, so after more Babybel and a boiled egg, I found myself in a tea shop with an older lady and we treated ourselves to a piece of coffee and walnut gateau (wonder why it did not occur to us to share?)
I think this counts as social eating, which I do not do often, so although cake = Sugar and flour (don't care about the fat) which I generally avoid, I did not stress about it.
This morning I was 3 pounds lighter. Therefore cake is diet food. No, rubbish of course it isn't. What this illustrates is that my body does not do instant feedback, so I don't panic if I plateau or gain, as I did last week.
I don't believe in calories in, calories out so I have a different paradigm to keep me motivated....

Sshhhh, nearly at goal weight
I am the person who nearly finished their homework, essay, report, project, redecorating the kitchen, weeding the flower beds. You name it, nearly is not a harbinger of success but a word of peril - don't count your chickens, many a slip 'twixt cup and lip etc etc. So I'm going nowhere near the Nearly There tent in case I temp fate. Keep calm and carry on.

Walking on the Edge
Last Tuesday it was a walk down Wenlock Edge from delightful Much Wenlock to Craven Arms. In general a pretty route mainly through woodland and lush pasture on a beautiful day that also featured two downpours, the first with hailstones. 16 miles, not too much up, stretches of horrible oozy muddy slides. All done on 2 mugs of green tea beforehand and water. I was still going at 2 when my window normally opens, felt OK so decided not to eat. Had break-fast after getting back to the cottage at 4.
This week walked from Garsdale station to Kirkby Stephen, 13.2 miles, staring up at Mallerstang Edge with dark cloud boiling over it to assess if the walk between the 2 stations over Mallerstang Edge and Nine Standards Rigg, 17 miles, strenuous, just short of 3000' of ascent was still possible for me. Decided that it might just be; it would have to be a Saturday as the southbound train runs an hour earlier. Very pleased to do this walk in just over 4 hours and get to the station just as it...

Still nine stone
Ok, part of me was going 8 st 13 lb, 8 st 13 lb! but a second week of 9 stone means that the 3 lb drop last week was not a fluke, or a rock bottom from which I will inevitably bounce back, so whoo hoo anyway.
More time to think of my interim goal award, probably the Kindle of the
Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living. As for getting to actual goal weight - organic raw cacao powder, MCT oil and super duper coffee beans.

I did it, I did the big one ...

As a warm up I walked 14 1/2 miles of the South Tyne Trail from Alston to Haltwhistle on the old rail track. This was mostly flat and gently downhill as Alston is the highest market town in England and Haltwhistle Isn't. Hot sunny day. Then, as it was a while since I have climbed a biggish fell, I tried Garsdale to Kirkby Stephen over Swarth Fell and Wild Boar Fell, 12 miles and 2390 feet. Perfect weather with welcome breezes on the tops, took me just over 5 hours. So, with husband on standby in case I missed the 16:29, I left the Settle bound platform of Garsdale station at 09:03 and reached Kirkby Stephen station 6 hours and 20 minutes later after the most fantastic day, much helped by the dry weather and springy turf not squelchy bog underfoot. Can a Senior...
