New Year's Day

by caldini on 01 Jan 2015, 08:29

They say that Christmas comes but once a year. Strictly speaking that's true, but the Christmas festivities last longer than a week. Everyone wants to have a good time with the family, but with the geographical distribution of the modern family these days there's no way it can be condensed into just one day. There's Christmas Day dinner in Edinburgh with the wife's family, and Boxing Day meal with the missing brothers and sisters from the previous day. Then it's on to Wales for afternoon tea and a buffet with my family. By then the head chefs are tired so it's out in to town for a three course meal. Finally there's New Year's Eve back in London with friends.
I've managed to skip a couple of breakfasts in that time and thankfully I'm still only 15st 10lb. (Most of the major weight gains in my life have happened at Christmas.) And so on New Year's Day I find the first chance for a proper fast (although to be fair I was eating and drinking until past midnight - as you do on New Year's Eve.)...

Boxing Day

by caldini on 26 Dec 2014, 10:40

It's Boxing Day morning. I'm 39 and I'll be 40 at the end of September next year and I really want to be 12 stone by then. I'm 15st 10lb now. I have a nine month old boy and we're trying for a second. I want to lose weight to help us with that goal, but I also want to be fit and healthy for them. Most of all though, I want to be fit and healthy for me.

I tried fasting a couple of years ago but I tied it in with stopping sugar and alcohol for lent. I lost quite a bit but it all went back on. This time I want to lose the weight, get fit and maintain the weight loss forever hopefully.

After yesterday's Christmas gorge-fest (lovely) I'm avoiding going down to breakfast (we're staying in a hotel in Edinburgh, spending Christmas with family). There's another family meal this afternoon, and skipping breakfast seems like a good idea.
