That was quick!

by drilakila on 03 Nov 2013, 09:54

Three months on from starting this amazing process I am mentally hugging myself on a daily basis. I have lost 11 kg's and am now the thinnest/lightest I have been for probably over a decade! I am still amazed and astonished and in awe of how my body has responded to this way of fasting.
I didn't think I could do it initially, I was a slave to the belief that going without food for even a few hours was not good. How wrong I was. I love fasting! It makes me feel full of life and energy and I can almost imagine myself repairing on a cellular level lol.
This may sound a bit weird but some mornings when I wake up I have a check in with my body. I feel the differences the change in weight has made. At 56 my skin is beginning to lose it's elasticity. I have been very lucky genetically and am blessed with good skin but the ravages of time are taking their toll which makes me sad. I try to accept it but it's a timely reminder of my mortality and occasionally the reason for some tearful moments....

Hmmm, how interesting...

by drilakila on 03 Sep 2013, 17:16

I got some new scales and I have had to go metric. Put on a kilo this week but lost 3cms from my waist and hips and 1.5 from my knees lol. The down side is my favourite jeans are getting baggy!!!
After my little mental wobble last week I am feeling much better. Strangely I have been making dresses (I rarely wear dresses) and winter is on its way so I may never wear them. But I had the fabric lying around for years and suddenly I have developed an interest in clothes and my appearance.
Had to go food shopping today and I made the mistake of going there hungry. After I got the things on my list I browsed the cakes, then the sweets because I was craving something sweet and fattening. But to my great surprise when I read the packets and saw how many calories there were I put each item back on the shelf and went and bought some 'Nature Valley' trail bars! I ate one in the car on the way home and felt much better. How odd. Usually I would have eaten an eclair or some of those yummy double chocolate...

Happiness is....

by drilakila on 29 Aug 2013, 08:24

Finding out that two squares of 70% chocolate are 104 calories and fit in at the end of a fasting day without blowing my allowance! I keep looking at my slimmer arms and thinking, wow my arms look different. Very weird.

Not doing very well mentally this week. Fasting is going ok although evenings still find me pacing a little in front of the fridge lol.
This is probably not the place to air my inner thoughts but I will anyway.
I get depressed. Don't we all. Spent years in therapy and taking anti-depressants but this last year I have been without drugs and therapy and coping pretty well. But I have days/weeks when the world turns sour. Everything is wrong. I feel lost and lonely but at the same time unable to interact with people although it's what I crave. So maybe the anonymity of a blog will help me get back to facing the world with a smile.

Prior to 5:2 when I felt like this I would drink myself into a stupor most nights or eat to comfort myself. It didn't feel like bingeing.....one...

why, thank you!

by drilakila on 22 Aug 2013, 10:42

one of my customers asked me if I had lost weight yesterday. He's a fitness instructor and we have discussed diets etc often. He helped me out last year with a food plan which did help me shift some weight. Very nice to get such good feedback.
My 10th fast went well yesterday and it is definitely getting easier. Except for the evenings which are still a challenge. My stomach doesn't tell me it's hungry..my mouth does! Perhaps it's a hangover from when I used to smoke or I am really orally fixated lol. It's very frustrating for me to feel like this and I get restless wondering if I can squeeze a few more calories into me, out of my allowance. I go to the fridge, open the door and stare at the contents. I close the door empty handed, sigh, and walk away. The trouble is I crave bread and cheese....anything highly calorific. So I drink some more water or no sugar ginger beer and go to bed a little bit hungry. Not crying though, ...

well whadyaknow!

by drilakila on 18 Aug 2013, 19:59

I just had to jump on the scales again. I know I shouldn't because I can be very obsessive about my weight lol.
To my great surprise I am back to 13 and 1/2 stone! I find this yo yo-ing weight quite interesting. Back in the day when i was a yo yo dieter the gaining of weight would send me spiraling into a depression. I know it's very early days but I feel happy that if I trust in the process I have no need to worry about gaining a few pounds.
I am still struggling with eating enough calories on my 'normal' days lol. Yesterday I felt I was forcing food down me! But I balked at eating a whole (small) trifle because it was 700 calories! I ate half, but you know, it wasn't as fabulous as I thought it would be! I'd rather have fruit and low fat ice cream.
This evening I had pizza...well half. I was full! I am looking forward to fasting tomorrow. I am thinking my dogs might put on weight at this rate if I keep giving then the food I can't eat lol.
I spent a really happy hour this morning finding...
