Spring is here and Summer is going to be so much better

by harrij19 on 12 Apr 2013, 05:25

Living in Switzerland is a wonderful. The lifestyle, culture and natural beauty is a joy. The four distinct seasons add to that wonderment, but this past winter has decided to impinge on spring time....in other words, winter has outstayed it's welcome. Now. Never really one who in the past thought nothing more that being curled up with a Shiraz a comfy chair and a log fire , I am now of a completely different opinion. And why? Because of the positive results of 5:2. Having dropped over 10% of unwanted body weight ( and there is more to go), I have these uncontrollable urges to get into the nature and reconnect with an old friend...hiking and mountain walking (we have a few of those here).

I have been pretty good at sticking to Monday and Thursday fast days, and really enjoy the strange feeling of freedom that they give. I know freedom is a strange way of describing the sensation, but to me it feels like that. Free to take charge of the fasting day, and free to really enjoy non- fast days. This really has added a new dimension to my life.

So. Today and the next week should see us climbing the temperature charts, into confirmed spring conditions. My wife and myself already have plans for a 15km plus walk on Sunday. Yes! 15km plus...hard to believe for me. But it doesn't stop there. The weight loss has certainly made swimming easier and more fun.

With a program of hiking, swimming and some future gym sessions planned, all. Can say s...Bring on summer. No more laying on the beach, frightened of being mistaken for a beached whale and being rolled into the sea...no. No and No again.

And if that is not enough. The challenge of the 3 peaks to drive me on..

Today is Friday. We are firing up the wood fueled pizza oven and friends are coming over to say hello to the real spring. Maybe we can share our hiking plans! Whatever happens, I will be digesting a guilt free pizza with a glass of Red.

Wonderful. Enjoy those walks and that glass of red!
Post pizza red wine bash report. The evening was a lot of fun. The weather gods played their part by allowing us a mostly dry evening. The champagne and red wine flowed. Over the past few n weeks, I have become more conscious about my fuel intake, and I cannot agree more...avoid that factory processed rubbish. Our pizzas were created from locally grown and milled flour. A friend supplied his self made mozzarella, and we knocked up the sauce. I have a passion for hot spicy pizzas. Last night was really two small thin pizzas with garlic, jalapeño chillies, blue cheese and a dash of hot oil. Just lovely...Tomorrow we are undertaking an 18 km hike, which ends at a thermal bath and sauna center. I would not have been happy about this a few months ago, but with 11 plus kgs dropped, it is so much easier.
