My Intermittent Fasting Journey

My progress on Intermittent Fasting will be posted here with updates on my weight being posted daily, and with updates on my waist size and body fat content being posted on a weekly basis on a Monday. My weigh-in day was a Monday but I will now be weighing in every day in order to keep everything on track, and I now fast on a Monday on most weeks (although that will often change depending upon my circumstances at that time). More information about my weight loss background and my goals for the future on intermittent fasting can be found on my first forum posting which can be seen by clicking here.

Day 103 - Feeding Day 74 (Deliberate Weight Gain)

Current Actual Weight: 71.0kg (11 stone 3 pounds)
Current Trend Weight: 71.7kg (11 stone 4 pounds)

In a forum about weight loss, it might seem inappropriate to be talking about deliberately gaining weight. However, my weight has been running well below the value which it was at last Monday's official weekly weigh-in, and has also got very close to the 11 stone mark which marks the bottom of the range of weights that I am trying to stay within as part of my weight maintenance plan.

In these circumstances, it is actually important to allow myself to regain a little bit of weight over the next few days, in order to ensure that the resulting overall weekly weight loss at next Monday's weigh-in isn't too big. That is particularly true since my motive is only to maintain the weight that I have got down to, rather than to lose even more weight over and above that (which is why I switched to 6:1 from 5:2).

If any of you have ever watched The Biggest Loser (I have been able to pick up the ongoing American version of that show on YouTube) on TV, you will occasionally find a contestant deliberately gaining weight by drinking gallons of water before a weigh-in when they are in a situation where weight loss isn't as important as usual. That way, they can then go on to record a much bigger weight loss when that does become more important.

Really, that is the sort of scenario that I'm facing just now, but the tactic that I have used is completely different and this is where I have once again been able to use the daily weigh-ins to my advantage. Until now, I have been able to use those weigh-ins to control my weigh losses to the extent that I have been able to lose more or less exactly the amount of weight that I have wanted to lose, at the exact time that I have wanted to lose that weight. That indeed, is how I achieved my final target weight that has taken me into weight maintenance mode.

Yesterday was therefore an experiment to see if I can have the same success when it comes to weight gain because what I was looking for was a small weight gain that would keep my weight within my weight maintenance range, whilst still allowing some leeway for any over-indulges that I have today. Because of that, I made the decision to employ the same calorie intake which led to a small weight gain a couple of days earlier and of course, yesterday was also a rest day from my gym and fitness activities.

The day started as usual with a breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, two slices of bacon and a tomato with an apple and a glass of milk. I had also reintroduced the stick of Austrian cheese as a snack and had two slices of cold meat with some salad for my lunch along with a tomato, a small orange and a glass of milk. For my evening meal, I reintroduced those extra carbs and had two fish cakes with some salad, a tomato, a small handful of pickled onions, an apple and a glass of milk.

In the end, the resulting weight gain amounted to 0.6kg from this time yesterday which whilst being slightly bigger than what I had anticipated, is still more or less what I wanted since yesterday's weight loss was also slightly bigger than expected. My weight is exactly the same as what it was after my last fasting day and that has now put me in very good stead for the weekend, particularly for today which has now become binge Saturday for me. That is because I know that now, I should be able to over-indulge today and still be within my final target weight at Monday's official weekly weigh-in. Because of that, I am really pleased with how things are going and how I have once again, been able to use my daily weigh-ins to control the results of this morning's weigh-in.
