My Intermittent Fasting Journey

My progress on Intermittent Fasting will be posted here with updates on my weight being posted daily, and with updates on my waist size and body fat content being posted on a weekly basis on a Monday. My weigh-in day was a Monday but I will now be weighing in every day in order to keep everything on track, and I now fast on a Monday on most weeks (although that will often change depending upon my circumstances at that time). More information about my weight loss background and my goals for the future on intermittent fasting can be found on my first forum posting which can be seen by clicking here.

Day 104 - Feeding Day 75 (Carb Refeed Day)

by johncs2013 on 01 Dec 2013, 08:30

Current Actual Weight: 72.1kg (11 stone 5 pounds)
Current Trend Weight: 71.7kg (11 stone 4 pounds)

In yesterday’s blog entry, I mentioned that a Saturday was becoming binge Saturday because of the amount of overeating on that particular day of the week. Indeed and right off the bat, yesterday started off with exactly that intention as I started off with a Scotch egg at breakfast time along with a small handful of chicken samosas. With that, I had an apple and a glass of milk. That was even before my fitness class of the day which was my weekly spin class (which went better than the previous week’s efforts, but which was still a bit of a struggle).

I felt quite relaxed about this particular bout of overeating as I didn’t want to lose a lot of weight too quickly and I knew that the resulting weight gain would bring me close to the weight which I recorded at my last official weekly weigh-in which I do every Monday. That is fine as well, as long as my weight remains within the bounds of what I am trying to maintain which is at or slightly below the weight which I recorded last Monday. That intention was shown even more when I started to tuck into a bag of peanuts mixed with raisins and chocolate raisins before lunch, and finished the rest of that bag afterwards.

However, weekends generally tend not to be good times for me and that weekend curse struck yet again at lunchtime, as the latest attempt to cook a couple of poached eggs in the microwave went badly wrong (I have never really been into cooking, and this is just one reason why that is the case). I tried to be as careful as possible when it came to cooking those poached eggs, but even that wasn’t enough to stop the contents from exploding outwards inside its container with a loud bang and I was lucky that I didn’t start a fire in the process. Amazingly though, my microwave still works quite well after that, and I managed to have two slices of bacon with some beans and half of the mixed grill pack that I normally have at weekends, consisting of a slice of black pudding, a slice of lorne sausage and a slice of fruit pudding.

I added a tomato to that and as a dessert, I had some tinned fruit cocktail with some custard. For some reason, my stomach didn’t feel very good for a while and I spent a bit of time going to the toilet. That passed quite quickly though, and I was fine by the evening. However, this shows that with this WOL, I can’t deal with binges as well as what I once could. Consequently, I didn’t really feel like eating anything for the rest of the day, although I did eat some chicken curry with rice for my evening meal. That is something which I very rarely have these days due to the carb content but since I was in a carb refeeding day, I wasn’t really too bothered on this occasion.

I felt very tired last night and had an early night as I struggled to stay awake beyond 10pm. I have since woken up this morning in a refreshed mode and although I haven’t been able to upload this blog entry right away as the forum website is down as I write, I have been able to prepare this in Microsoft Word so that it is ready to upload at the earliest possible opportunity. Anyway, the weigh-in showed that I had gained exactly 1kg from the same time yesterday, which is not actually as big a weight gain as what I have had before after a big eating binge. To be fair though, yesterday was more like a carb reefed day than a binge and I didn’t consume any alcohol, chocolate (except for within those raisins), cakes or anything like that and so, I didn’t actually consume anything which would be obvious in terms of being classed as a sugary item. However, my carb intake was still quite high and that would account for the weight gain.

As it turns out though, this is actually quite a good result for me because it brings my weight closer to what was on Monday morning. Furthermore, I am still running at a 2 pound weekly weight loss since this time last week and even if I record a one pound weight gain from today going into tomorrow’s official weekly weigh-in, my weight will still be within the range that I am trying to maintain. That means that I am still in a very comfortable position going into tomorrow's weigh-in and although I can’t afford another eating binge today, or even to have the same eating pattern that I had yesterday, I can now afford to be fairly relaxed about today’s eating pattern. That indeed, is far more the case than what it was at this time last week when I was left with the challenge of having to lose weight to get within that desired weight range. To me, that is therefore something to be really pleased with.

Your microwave incident made me laugh out loud John, sorry! Why don't you treat yourself and buy some rubber poaching pods? They are fail safe, but use them in the regular way, ie place them in simmering water with the lid on. They take six minutes. Just remember to lightly oil the pods before you break the eggs into them!
Well, one thing's for sure as I certainly won't be trying to poach eggs in the microwave again. I actually have a poaching pan for eggs that is hidden away and gathering dust as I haven't used it for quite a number of years. The only reason why I haven't used it though is because I thought that it would be quicker doing my poached eggs in the microwave, especially since you can buy certain plastic containers for that (which I used). However, it looks as though I might have to start think about digging out that poaching pan out again which I can't really be bothered with doing, as that just means more washing up afterwards than what I have already.
