My Intermittent Fasting Journey

My progress on Intermittent Fasting will be posted here with updates on my weight being posted daily, and with updates on my waist size and body fat content being posted on a weekly basis on a Monday. My weigh-in day was a Monday but I will now be weighing in every day in order to keep everything on track, and I now fast on a Monday on most weeks (although that will often change depending upon my circumstances at that time). More information about my weight loss background and my goals for the future on intermittent fasting can be found on my first forum posting which can be seen by clicking here.

Day 99 - Fasting Day 29 (First Fasting Day Under 6:1)

by johncs2013 on 26 Nov 2013, 07:06

Current Actual Weight: 71.0kg (11 stone 3 pounds)
Current Trend Weight: 72.3kg (11 stone 5 pounds)

Yesterday marked the beginning of a new era, as it was the first fasting day since I declared that I would be switching to 6:1. That means that the week would begin no differently to how it began under 5:2 and that meant going to an Aquafit class on an empty stomach. I had real problems with sleeping on the previous night, and I didn't manage to sleep beyond 4am, but the Aquafit session still went really well.

Lunch consisted of the usual scrambled eggs with two slices of cold meat, and I had a piece of meat with some salad for my evening meal once again. I found it a bit difficult to get to sleep last night but once I got to sleep, I didn't have the same problems as the previous night in terms of staying asleep and so, I didn't wake up until after 6am this time after getting up on just a few occasions during the night to go to the toilet.

So far, all of this is standard fare and no different to what I would normally report on a fasting day. The scales showed that as well, as they reported a loss of 1.8kg from yesterday. One thing that I am noticing is that the weight losses with each fasting day have been very consistent and that is yet another example of how I can virtually almost always control what my weight will be at the next morning's weigh-in. That is going to provide a very useful guide for me in terms of how I handle the new 6:1 regime.

That weight loss takes me to exactly 71kg which is just 0.2kg more than my all time record for my lowest ever weight, but it is not a record and so since there will be no more fasting days this week, that means that there will be no such records broken this week. That is actually good news in a sense because it means that already, I have arrested the gradual trend of weight loss over the last few weeks which is what I have been looking for as I'm really not that interested any more in losing any more weight than what I have lost already.

The next two days ahead would have been feeding days before under 5:2 and that means that the next two days will be no different in that sense under 6:1 from how I would have handled them before. Beyond that though, things will be different as every day for the rest of this week will now have to be a feeding day under 6:1, as I have now used up my only fasting day of the week. Today will be a bit special though, as it will also be my 100th day of this WOL.

I therefore expect that tomorrow's daily blog entry will be very interesting in that regard. Since I have used up that only fasting day of the week, my challenge will now be to keep my weight below 11 and a half stone by my next official Monday morning weekly weigh-in, without any further fasting days and with another weekend in amongst that run of feeding days. That is going to be a huge challenge and at some point, there will be at least one reduced calorie day amongst that although the timing of those and how many reduced calories that I take will depend on how the scales react to what I do during the rest of the week.

What I do know that is that the first day after a fasting day always results in a weight gain at the following morning's weigh-in. That means that it would be tempting to experiment with throwing in a reduced calorie day today, to see if I can avoid that weight gain with that. A low carb intake will help towards that and now that I have fewer fasting days, the importance of low carb eating will now be even more important than ever in terms of keeping the weight down. That resulted in me being able to restrict the weight gain to just a pound over two feeding days last week after the first fasting day, but the second fasting day of last week was then followed by a weight gain of two pounds on the following day even with low carb eating.

A reduced calorie day might curb those weight gains for that one day, but that might also just postpone that weight gain until the following day and I don't want to be restricting my calorie intake on every single day. In any case, my weight will usually always be within the required range even with those weight gains and from that regard, it is probably not worth the bother of trying to prevent them from happening as my goal is just to remain below 11 and a half stone at the next official weekly weigh-in next Monday morning. Nevertheless, I did find that I was able to maintain the same weight between the first and second feeding days after last week's first fasting day, and that showed that my calorie intake was just perfect for that day.

That will therefore act as a good guide for what my calorie intake showed be this week. However, there will then be a weekend to face, and that is where I will be expecting to throw in at least one reduced calorie day to deal with any over-indulges over the weekend. The week ahead is therefore, going to be a very interesting one indeed.
