My Intermittent Fasting Journey

My progress on Intermittent Fasting will be posted here with updates on my weight being posted daily, and with updates on my waist size and body fat content being posted on a weekly basis on a Monday. My weigh-in day was a Monday but I will now be weighing in every day in order to keep everything on track, and I now fast on a Monday on most weeks (although that will often change depending upon my circumstances at that time). More information about my weight loss background and my goals for the future on intermittent fasting can be found on my first forum posting which can be seen by clicking here.

Reading 3 (taken at 6:29am GMT on 2 Dec 2013): 130/80 (Pulse: 57)

Yesterday was a fairly relaxed day where there wasn't the same pressure on me to lose weight in order to remain within my weight maintenance range, as what there was on the previous week. That in turn meant that although I couldn't afford to binge (which would have pushed me back outside that range), I could at least afford to take in a higher calorie intake than on the previous week. In order to ensure that my weight didn't go above that upper limit though, I reduced the carb intake once again.

The started with a light breakfast which had to light as I knew that I would be eating quite a big lunch. That meant that I had just a small orange and a glass of milk at breakfast time. I then had my gym session where the more relaxed manner in which I was now showing, came through in quite a big way to produce my best performance in the gym at a weekend for quite a while although that wasn't a record-breaking performance.

Even my result on the rowing machine was quite a decent one and that is despite the fact that I was already about to meet my calorie burn target quite comfortably as I went into that. That meant that the result on the rowing machine didn't matter that much, but I hadn't had a good result on there for a while and so, it was still important to correct that.

Anyway, after that gym session came that big lunch which consisted of two eggs (which were scrambled this time, as I didn't want any more disasters with trying to cook a poached egg) with two slices of bacon, some beans, a tomato and the rest of my mixed grill pack from the previous day (which consisted of a slice of black pudding, a slice of lorne sausage and a slice of fruit dumpling). As a dessert, I had the rest of my tinned fruit from the previous day with some custard, and I once again had a glass of milk.

For my evening meal, I went back to a sensible low carb meal and that meant having a grilled kipper with some salad and a tomato. With that, I had a small orange and a glass of milk. Because I was now taking a more relaxed approach though, I also had another stick of Austrian cheese as an afternoon snack. I wasn't looking to lose any weight but I also didn't want a big weight gain either and the scales obliged quite nicely with that at this morning's weigh-in as I recorded neither a weight loss nor a weight gain. Instead, my weight has stayed at exactly the same value which it was at yesterday which keeps me comfortably within my weight limits at 11 stone 5 pounds, and represents an overall weight loss over the week, of slightly less than 2 pounds (although my weight as reported to the nearest pound is shown to only a pound less than what it was a week ago).

Although I'm not looking to lose any more weight, I am happy enough to accept this weight loss over the week on this occasion, as that will now allow me to take a slightly more relaxed approach in future weeks. That will be even more important as Christmas approaches because a lower weight now, will mean that I should also be able to return from my festive break at a lower weight, thus reducing the amount of time that I will have to spend with reverting back to 5:2 at the beginning of the new year.

Under this WOL, this is the second 6:1 week that I've had and on both occasions, I have lost weight with that. Yet, that hasn't always been the case with 5:2 and so, it is really amazing how it can work out like that. Furthermore, the reduced number of fasting days in each week seems to have reduced the cortisol levels a bit and that together with my more relaxed manner that I am now taking, has even made a big difference with my blood pressure readings which have now, come out to be a lot better this week, than what they have done for a while.

That has been quite a massive issue for me in recent times and so, it was good to finally get a decent result there this morning. Finally, I can also report that my waist size has gone down by another 0.2 inches since this time last week, and that my body fat percentage has gone down by nearly a third of one percent (0.31% to be exact) over that same period. As for the week ahead, I have shown during the week that I can successfully maintain my current weight without doing any fasting at all. However, I would never be able to do so without allowing myself to have those special treats at some point, which I enjoy. That means that I will still continue to need to do at least some fasting in order to allow me that luxury and in fact, today will be that one fasting day which I have every week.
