My Intermittent Fasting Journey

My progress on Intermittent Fasting will be posted here with updates on my weight being posted daily, and with updates on my waist size and body fat content being posted on a weekly basis on a Monday. My weigh-in day was a Monday but I will now be weighing in every day in order to keep everything on track, and I now fast on a Monday on most weeks (although that will often change depending upon my circumstances at that time). More information about my weight loss background and my goals for the future on intermittent fasting can be found on my first forum posting which can be seen by clicking here.

Low Carb Way Of Stopping Eating Binge

by johncs2013 on 19 Jan 2014, 07:26

Whenever I eat a lot of carbs, I find that I not only get bloated, but also gain a lot of weight as the body needs to retain more water in order to process those carbs. At the same time, I will usually continue to feel even hungrier (if anything) which will usually serve to fuel that binge even further. Yesterday was an ideal candidate for that although the day began with a breakfast of two slices of bacon with scrambled eggs, which would suggest that this would not be the case.

However, I then met a friend for lunch and ate a meal which consisted of a chicken sandwich with some chips and some salad. That was therefore a meal which had quite a high carb content and with that, I felt as though I wanted to binge for the rest of the day. Had I stuck with my old ways, that would have resulted in me eating a lot of high sugar content snacks, and an evening meal with a high carb content. That in turn would no doubt have led to a fairly big weight gain due to water retention.

At that point though,...

Target Weight Achieved Once Again

by johncs2013 on 13 Jan 2014, 07:46

Current Actual Weight: 72.3kg (11 stone 5 pounds)
Current Trend Weight: 73.2kg (11 stone 7 pounds)

Current Waist Size: 30.9 inches (down by 0.7 inches in last week)
Current Body Fat Percentage: 13.03% (down by 0.81% in last week)
Lowest Blood Pressure Reading: 132 over 83 (Pulse 55)

After reading the above figures, it would seem hard to believe that just a week ago, my weight had ballooned all the up to 11 stone 13 pounds as a result of my festive excesses. Because of that, I took immediate action by starting this week straight away with a 5:2 week, and fasting on Monday and Thursday. However, I knew that a large part of that weight gain would be due to water weight, and would disappear very quickly.

As I hadn't fasted at all over the festive period, I had expected last Monday's fasting day to be tougher than normal, but that was not the case in reality and I got through that without any problems. I even managed to lose a record amount of weight with that as my weight dropped all the...

Time To Repair The Festive Damage

by johncs2013 on 06 Jan 2014, 07:46

Current Actual Weight: 75.6kg (11 stone 13 pounds)
Current Trend Weight: 75.0kg (11 stone 11 pounds)

Current Waist Size: 31.6 inches
Current Body Fat Percentage: 13.84%
Lowest Blood Pressure Reading: 138 over 82 (Pulse 62)

Since this is my first blog post of 2014, I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year. Whether you are a member of this forum following this WOL or someone who is not a member of this forum, but who is either following this WOL or thinking about doing so, I hope that 2014 will be a healthy and prosperous year for you, regardless of your aims and motives for the year ahead.

All of you who are reading this will have noticed that I have been missing from this forum over the festive period. However, I did mention in my last blog post of 2013 that I would be taking a break from this WOL and from my health regime in general over the festive season. At the same time, I also mentioned in that post, that I would be returning as from today, to assess...

My Festive Message

by johncs2013 on 23 Dec 2013, 08:36

Current Actual Weight: 68.5kg (10 stone 11 pounds)
Current Trend Weight: 70.4kg (11 stone 1 pound)

Waist Size: 29.8 inches (down by 0.8 inches from this time last week)
Body Fat Percentage: 11.29% (down by 0.98% from this time last week)

As I am about to travel for my Christmas ventures, I don't have time to give my usual detailed account of my my current progress both here and on the weight maintenance section of this forum and so here is a brief summary.

Yesterday was a fasting day which was my last fasting day of 2013, and which completed my first 5:2 week since my switch to weight maintenance and a general 6:1 regime. Today, I lost 0.7kg since this time yesterday which is my smallest weight loss so far to come with a fasting day. That is probably because I went into that at such a low weight to begin with and in fact, there has been weight losses during the last week which have came after a feeding day, which have actually been bigger than that. However, that is still a substantial...

Announcement On Low Carb Dieting

by johncs2013 on 19 Dec 2013, 19:13

When I started this WOL, my carb intake was very high as I was eating a lot of bread (albeit wholemeal bread), potatoes, pasta and rice. Since starting this WOL, I have cut out those things and tried to go by a diet which is lower in carbs than what I was eating before. With that in place, I was then ready to bring my protein intake down a bit whilst increasing my fat intake (especially saturated fats) or so I thought.

However, there has been a few comments in this forum today in response to another thread which I started earlier on today, and I have found those comments rather depressing to the point that I'm still feeling a bit upset by them. The reason for that is because a number of people have commented that my current carb intake is still not low enough for that to be considered as a low carb diet. To me, that is just making me feel as though I have failed in terms of trying to achieve my goal of a low carb diet and am now incapable of achieving that goal.

It must be remembered...
