My Intermittent Fasting Journey

My progress on Intermittent Fasting will be posted here with updates on my weight being posted daily, and with updates on my waist size and body fat content being posted on a weekly basis on a Monday. My weigh-in day was a Monday but I will now be weighing in every day in order to keep everything on track, and I now fast on a Monday on most weeks (although that will often change depending upon my circumstances at that time). More information about my weight loss background and my goals for the future on intermittent fasting can be found on my first forum posting which can be seen by clicking here.

Current Actual Weight: 69.5kg (10 stone 13 pounds)
Current Trend Weight: 70.8kg (11 stone 2 pounds)

In recent posts to this forum, I have always said that my weight might at some point, end up going below 11 stone at some point below Christmas although I wouldn’t expect that to be the case at Monday morning weigh-ins as I always gain weight over the weekend (that is when I am less bothered about healthy eating, and take a complete break from that). I can now confirm that this possibility has now become a reality as my weigh-in this morning confirmed that my weight is now down to 10 stone 13 pounds, which is 69.5kg. That has broken through two different barriers because firstly, you have to go all the way back to 1981 to find a previous occasion where my weight was below 11 stone.

Back in those days, I can vaguely remember being 10 and a half stone, but it took a real struggle to get to that sort of weight even in those days and I was only a teenager at the time. The other barrier which have broken though this morning, is the fact that my weight has now dropped to below 70kg for only the first time ever in my adult life. Believe it or not though, that converts to a body mass index of 23.22kg per square metre which is still closer to the top of the ‘normal’ range for that, than the bottom. However, I have very little body fat left and my upper body is now beginning to look a bit boney.

There are two possible ways of looking at such a result because if you’re just happy that I haven’t regained all of my previous weight that I had lost, this is really good news because with less than a fortnight to go now until Christmas, this result has finally confirmed that this will not be the case for this year. However, the amount of weight that I’m still losing might also make you a bit concerned that I’m now losing too much weight and if that is the case, these results won’t make for such good reading (that is particularly important since today is also Friday the 13th which is considered to be unlucky for some, and that applies at any time of year and many superstitious people will even stay in bed all day because of that).

Today’s result has been achieved with some sensible eating during the week after my fasting day on Monday. However, that very cautious approach which I have been taking as regards to my overall health regime, has resulted from my fears of gaining a lot of weight over a short period of time if I eat more (recent weigh-ins have shown that my weight will easily jump up by almost half a stone or even more within the space of a few days whenever I do any sort of over-indulging) and that in turn, has locked me into this overall weight loss just now which I have been struggling to break out of until now. This weight loss happens when I reduce my carbs intake but I have been advised on this forum, that I should also be increasing my intake of saturated fats (just now, most of my calorie intake has been in the form of protein, which I could easily cut back on a little bit).

That is definitely something worth looking into to see if that stems my current weight loss, especially as that would also make it even less likely that I would feel hungry and end up craving more carbs. The only thing there is that we are now getting very close to Christmas and I only have just over a week of my health regime left before then. That means that my commitment towards making further changes to my diet aren’t quite there just now as everything is now sort of winding down towards Christmas. Last year, I took a complete break from my health regime (including my gym sessions and fitness classes) over the Christmas and New Year period). At this point last year, my weight had only just briefly gone below 12 stone for only the first time ever.

My weight then went up to 12 stone 4 pounds over the festive period, but I then lost all of that extra weight within a week of returning to my health regime in the new year. I will be expecting the same thing to happen again this time but now, I am a stone lighter than what I was at this time last year, and this is at the end of a year where my only goal was just to maintain the weight that I had got down to at the end of last year. As with a year ago, it will therefore be once we get into the new year that I will then be more focused on my health regime, and making those further changes to my diet which I have just described.
