My Intermittent Fasting Journey

My progress on Intermittent Fasting will be posted here with updates on my weight being posted daily, and with updates on my waist size and body fat content being posted on a weekly basis on a Monday. My weigh-in day was a Monday but I will now be weighing in every day in order to keep everything on track, and I now fast on a Monday on most weeks (although that will often change depending upon my circumstances at that time). More information about my weight loss background and my goals for the future on intermittent fasting can be found on my first forum posting which can be seen by clicking here.

October 7 Weigh-in

by johncs2013 on 07 Oct 2013, 18:15

Last week started with my usual binging day on Monday, where I had some beer at night. That was then followed by my first fasting day of the week where I didn't eat anything until the evening when I then had some salad with a sweet potato (which I decided to have instead of a normal potato for health reasons) and some grilled fish.

Because I had saved all of my 500 calories for the evening, I was then able to have some instant soup (comprising of 50 calories) and a piece of fruit. To keep my fluid levels up, I had some green tea and water throughout the day. That went quite well, and I followed that up with two non-fasting days where I ate more sensibly. However, I finished my evening meal on the second of those two non-fasting days a bit earlier than normal because since the following day was another fasting day, I then began a complete 24 hour fast which would mean that I would go through a whole 24 hours without consuming any calories, and only some green tea and water.

That 24 hour fast then ended with the same evening meal on Friday that I had on Tuesday, but with some brown rice instead of the sweet potato. That went really well except that once again, I wasn't able to sleep beyond 3am the following morning, and that was something which hadn't happened since my first couple of weeks on this diet.

Nevertheless, my energy levels were still very good and I went on to beat some more personal bests at my Sunday gym session (the weekend was made up of two more sensible eating non-fasting days). That then took me to this morning's weigh-in, where I had lost a pound from last week's figures, as well as 0.1 inches from my waist. That means that my weight is now down to 11 stone 9 pounds, whilst my waist size is down to 31.4 inches with both my weight and waist size beating my all time record for the lowest ever values for those for the whole of my adult life going all the way back to the 1980s.

This week has began with a high calorie intake once again but with all of the fasting that I'm doing, my stomach is struggling more and more to handle the Monday binges which are no longer feeling like such a good idea after all. Yet, the results of my weigh-ins are clearly showing that I can afford to consume those extra calories since I am still losing weight. However, it now looks as though I will probably need to spread those extra calories throughout the week instead of having them all on the same day.

There is also another weird thing in play here because on the Saturday before last, I consumed 1000 calories worth of salted cashew nuts without intending to do so and yet, I still went on to lose a pound of weight at the following Monday's weigh-in. I was thinking that I was lucky to get away with that on that occasion so to be on the safe side, I left out those extra calories this time. Yet with that, I ended up losing half a pound at this morning's weigh-in (that pound that I mentioned earlier is only in terms of how that affected my weight that is reported to the nearest pound whereas the actual weight loss was only really about half a pound).

That means that despite the fact that I consumed less calories than the previous week overall, I ended up losing less weight this time. It is therefore, really weird how it can work out like that at times.
