It's not so Bad!

by njk2125 on 28 Aug 2013, 08:26

So it just past 9am here in England and I'm 36 hours in to my first liquid fast which was my aim. Just incase any new members of 5:2 are interested and for my future reference, I didn't find it so bad.

I thought the first 12 hours was easy, mainly because the majority of it I was sleeping. Throughout yesterday a full fasting day I was fine until the time my family decided to have thier evening meal, then my stomach started to rumble and I started to salivate (not attractive!). I found the distraction of a nice long bubble bath followed by a self pedicure and facial a very useful tool. I would usually have gone for a run but having already been in the morning I didn't want to push it on no food. Once I got past that point it was easy again, although going to bed on empty was a little strange. It took me a little longer than usual to fall asleep but I was tired and in bed eiarlier, I'm not sure if it is connected. I had a good nights sleep and woke up naturally about 8.30 am.

As you can...

Curiosity!

by njk2125 on 27 Aug 2013, 12:01

I am probably the least patient person out there, so even though i was planning on staying well away from the scales curiosity got the better of me this morning. I was quite shocked to discover that after 3 weeks I'm still the same weight. OK one of those weeks wasn't so good due to a holiday but still a pound off would have been nice. Anyway I know that there are many other ways in which to measure progress including measurments and body fat percentage. my waistband is still measuring the same and I stupidly didn't take any other measurement, but I will now for future reference. However my body fat percentage has apparently gone down a whole 1% which is totally amazing!

Just to make sure I did three readings and they all came out the same so I'm pretty chuffed with that! There is still quite a way to go with my body fat reduction but finally it's heading in the right direction.

I know that I'm in this for the long haul, I really dont want it to turn in to some weight loss obsessional...

Still Not Hungry

by njk2125 on 25 Aug 2013, 09:25

Yesterdays fast day went well, I waited till my evening meal to eat so that it would be a full 24 hour fast, which I've heard is the optimum length of time. I had zero noodles with a creamy garlic musroom sauce and salad, absolutely delish! One thing I did find yesterday is that I was craving bread and chocolate, I wasn't hungry but I was fighting the urge to eat these throughout the day. Because my evening meal was only 200 calories I decided to have a slice of toast with dark belgian chocolate spread and it was devine!

I descussed this choice on the forums and I was surprised that I was advised to lay off the carbs on fasting days. I have low carbed in the past loosing 3 stone on the dukan diet but as a lifestyle I didn't find it very sustainable. Short term I think cutting carbs on fast days would be easy but I think I would soon get fed up with it and reach for the bread. So a I'm in a bit of a dilema on what to do with that information though I might give it a go but accepting that...

Feeling Smug!

by njk2125 on 23 Aug 2013, 19:47

Well Yesterdays fast went without a hitch, my evening meal and drinks through the day came under the 500 calorie mark, Just! However last nights suprisingly easy jogging session apparently burned of nearly 300 calories alone so all in all a sucessful day.

Today was a bit of a wierd one, I got up this morning and for the first time in ages I didn't want breakfast, the thought of it just didn't appeal to me, so I didn't bother. I then found myself craving salad all morning, Yes SALAD! am I going mad? I mean I'm not adverse to a salad but honestly does anyone usually crave it?

So salad all round it was for lunch, a small slice of mums homemade gluten free cake this afternoon while booking summer holiday round two (well it would be rude not too!). A lovely steak with stir fried veg for dinner. Why am I not stuffing my face with chocolate cake and chips while I can?

Tonight, according to Run Double a handy little jogging app on my phone, we had to up our game for the start of week four...

First Weigh In

by njk2125 on 22 Aug 2013, 11:37

I decided to get on the scales today because I was feeling rather large. The fist week on the plan went fine, the second week however I was on Holiday. I managed only one fast day but did skip a couple of meals here and there, mainly breakfast, other than that it was quite an indulgent week.

So even though I had decided not to weigh in for a while I thought I had better see what damage the holiday had done. I was quite surprised to discover that I was the same weight, I'm quite happy that, even with all the wine, fish and chips and icecream I have not gained anything other than a bit of bloating.

Fortunatly I am at home for the next few weeks instaed of being stuck behind a desk so I want to make a real effort to get my body fat down a bit and get a bit fitter before I start back at work.

So I have two fast days to fit in before Sunday, I'm doing one today and one Saturday. I think being flexible with the days will suit me best as I am finding it easier to fast on the days that I am...
