Lost my way with keeping fit whilst being here on the west coast and this week signed up to a gym and hired a trainer to get me back on track. 3 sessions down - can barely walk straight! Even though I'm as sore as hell, she recognises that underneath it all, I'm quite fit and I think she intends to make sure I get results!

I was quite intimidated going into a Californian posey gym I can tell you, but no need. Every age from college kids through to 80+ year olds lifting weights and giving it their absolute all. No 'vogue-ing' or peacocks - everyone works really hard. I can't tell you how inspirational the older generation are and this silver squad are the most fun too. I was so happy to see that age is no barrier here for keeping on moving. I have not seen such an age range in UK gyms - maybe into the 60's but not much more than that.

I'm really lucky that it's just five minutes around the corner and has a fully kitted pilates studio, cardio studio, yoga room, spinning theatre three weight areas (including one outside) and a ton of cardio equipment. Plus a pool and cabanas (although I have a great pool at the apartment complex). There is also a spa and a physio unit for chiropractic and sports injury.

Think it might take me a while to get myself back to where I was last Christmas, but I have decided to fully embrace what California has to offer and go for it whilst I'm here.
