Wednesday – eating “freely”, being aware of carb intake and not going OTT, fasting for 14 hours.

Achieved the 14 hour fast from Tuesday with breakfast around 9am.

Calories worked out around 1800 but not a healthy day due to a pre-booked afternoon tea treat. Mmmmm. Although controlled myself and limited it to two small scones with much less cream and jam than I would have normally piled on.

Would ideally like to eat more but of the right stuff on my next off day and need to find the time to plan.

Feel that planning is key.

Strangely I felt headachy, and slightly sick for most of the day. Maybe too many sweet things after two days fasting, and will watch for that on Saturday.

Not keen on facing the next two days....

I'm starving

It's 8 o'clock. I've been awake for two hours and I was hungry when I woke up.

My husband was not impressed when I asked if cannibalism counted as calories

Armed with the biggest bottle of water I could find and hoping I'll make it through today.

Focus! I'm going out for lunch tomorrow.

I've had 8 fasts now and I feel tremendous  In the beginning I found fast days easy to get through, never felt hungry but I did feel a little light headed and during the first week, I had headaches. As always I consulted the forum and took the advice, drink more water and it helped. The headaches stopped in week 2. However, from day one after each and every fast, I was buzzing, I couldn't sleep :frown: Again I consulted the forum, and of course loads of great advice. One piece of advice comes through very strongly with just about all the mishaps and bumps we face along the journey ..patience it will get better ..and it does! yesterday was my 8th fast and last night I SLEPT ...

My third week went by a little easier, I'm stuffing my face on the free days and I dare say I may be going over my calorie allowance. I intend to record my calorie intake this week so I know for sure if I am eating over, I do this on fast days and I know apart from some milk in my coffee I don't go over. My weight loss is slow only 2lbs off so far, considering the amount of exercise I do I would expect more, this is what leads me to suspect its days off where I am overeating. Obviously if it continued in this way I'd get there eventually but I am getting wed in October so hoped for more. Prior to this I was punishing myself on a vlcd, making myself utterly miserable so I am desperate for the 5:2 to work for me, it feels like this is the only semblance of normal eating I've ever known, a way to eat guilt free. It is hard to convey how much that means to me and I guess I am not alone. Ah before I forget I did exercise on my fast days last week and it was fine, better still I rarely feel hungry...

Evening here now 12 degrees south of the equator and have just finished dinner - I'm hopeless at counting calories (and pretty sure that's not the point), but just enjoyed salmon steak and salad - still feel empty, but have no desire to break the fast before tomorrow morning. Energy levels have been high all day and colleagues might even say I've been more cheerful than normal (this has turned out to be a stressful job). Walked the dogs before dinner in the freshly mown reserve, so able to access areas previously out-of-bounds due to risk (real or otherwise) of snakes, ticks, and god knows what else. Pity the tropical dusk is so brief and the mosquitos so fierce.
Perhaps the good mood is due in part to the low humidity, below 60% after months of high 90% days. Temps still consistently in the low 30s in the celsius range, but this morning it was a cool 24C, very refreshing. Scores of luminous dragonflies (flocks, flights, clouds: what do you call a massing of flying insects?) are the real...
