I went cycling in the hills again. Everything was tight on my bike -- and nothing fell off. If I'm ever going to reach my maximum heart-rate this would be the time. I climbed a few of these hills at my maximum speed -- and so I guess, at my current fitness level 159 is my maximum heart rate, which is consistent with my lowering minimum heart rate of 47 beats per minute.
Charts from this article http://circ.ahajournals.org/content/65/1/141.full.pdf in the journal "Circulation" indicate lowest rates are between 3am and 4am. Charts suggest that normally, minimum heart rates lower by about 0.5 bpm each year from 40-60 years old, and that my age group has typical lowest bpm of 75.
I love reading this dense jargon (and chuckle a little bit about how the researchers like to add fog to the room):
Deconditioning due to sedentary lifestyle is a common accompaniment of aging, and undetected significant coronary artery disease...

Well today I thought I'd go crazy and eat everything I couldn't yesterday, but well I surprised myself, I actually barely managed my normal breakfast (apple, pear, banana and yoghurt) I had to leave the yoghurt as I was just soo full, then I did a silly thing I jumped on the scales for a sneaky weigh in, ok so it's not really naughty but well I wanted to wait until Wednesday pm to see the results at my slimming world group. Oh and the scales said I'd lost 3lbs now don't get me wrong I'm chuffed after one day of fasting but I'm kinda scared that its a false reading hmm ah well we shall see on Wednesday and my patience will be wearing thin then lol.

My next fast day is planned for Wednesday so lets hope I can cope with the second one as well as I did the first, any recipes or tips please share :)

I'm about one month in to my new 5:2 regime. My dad, husband, and several girlfriends are doing it too, and are all finding it good.

I have a bunch of health issues that make exercising difficult, and weight loss beneficial. In particular I have hip dysplasia, and an artificial hip, and problems with the other hip. I am not allowed to do any high-impact exercise with my THR, and the less weight I carry, the longer it will last (I had it replaced when I was only 45). I also have an auto-immune disease, which leaves me with little energy and things like foot pain.

After a year on high doses of Prednisolone, I gained about 20 kg, and I was overweight to start with! I was able to get rid of most of this through a year of daily calorie counting (ugh) and more exercise, but I can't stand doing this any more. 5:2 suits me very well.

Weight - too scared to weigh

As you can see, it is not really day 3 but I've had a few things happen in the last two weeks. I came down with an ear infection, my son then got an ear infection and hand, foo and mouth disease -que no sleep mommy. Then I was so run down I got a severe throat infection. I was on 2 antibiotics and my son was on one aswell. Of course, then I realised after taking the antibioics that I could be pregnant. Que - stop fasting while testing. Anyway, fast forward to today and I appear not to be pregnant. While I was not trying oo be and it was an accident, I am actually really sad to realise that I'm not as I had convinced myself that I was. Won' be pregnant for a while again anyway. Then I got braces on which means I could only eat mushy food like potatoes for a abou a week bu had to eat to take pain killers. Also, my son who was premature finally moved onto normal formula in the middle of all this. It did not go well. He is waking every half hour in pain so now...

Another word of wisdom from Dr Herring, on the FB Fast-5 group. As I near the end of my window, having had a big meal at the beginning of it, this is what I should be asking myself, not "Could you fit a bit more in?" which is what I tend to do. And I still occasionally use the 5:2 classic "you can have it tomorrow".

Whoo hoo another pound down despite increasing my exercise. I have read a lot of threads on this forum and elsewhere why upping exercise can lead to gain, and was prepared. I see the exercise as an independent tool to improve my health not an adjunct to weight management, and I do feel better for it so far, more energised and less of a morning wreck - not a morning person by nature.

Well, onwards and downwards!
