Ok so non fasting day yesterday - another carb fest. Charity coffee (& cake) day and panko crumbed chicken and egg fried rice for dinner. Lost .3kg - was dreading the scales and again pleasantly surprised. Going to try really hard not to weigh until next Tuesday - the day after my next fast and a week since I'd have started. So in total I've lost 3.5kg - half a stone. I am impressed although is isn't really abnormal for me on any diet so we'll see what happens next week.

Gotta say though, today has been a bit of a struggle, not in terms of hunger - pretty much of a muchness compared to the other days, but in terms of fatigue. I have noticed slight cramping in my calves - I put this down to not drinking enough - as I said previously I'm struggling to drink enough on fast days. Started the morning by teaching a Zumba class - legs felt like lead, then supermarket shop, visit mum in the nursing home, back home to drop off shopping then into church office to do some admin and organise...

WARNING: I'm about to talk about bowels!

Thank you to everyone who looks in on my ramblings from time to time. I am sure that you will have noticed that I have quite a battle with "hostages" and indeed this has been my problem most of my life. I have never, in my living memory, been regular and it drives me crazy because it can have a profound effect on weight loss and can sometimes put the total kybosh on the whole thing - I have been disappointed on many occasions. Sadly I have resorted to laxatives etc and while they have an effect they also have side effects including water retention - not helpful either on the weight loss front - so with the image of that advert with the women emptying her food into her handbag and wandering around with it to spur me on (sometimes my handbag has ten days worth of dinners in it I kid you not!) I decided to see what I could do about it. A scour of G**gle and I came up with this supplement, one of the Magnesium group, Magnesium Citrate....

Five weeks in and I have lost 6.5 kg and 8 cm off my waist. I can definitely feel and see the difference. My indigestion symptoms are gone and I have a lot more energy. I have also lost the flab around my face and can see my cheekbones again! Only another kilo to go and I am officially in the 'overweight' range with my BMI, no longer 'obese'. My goal weight (for now) is 13.5 kg away, and suddenly it seems extremely doable. I love how comfortable I feel in my clothes now!

I have not felt deprived in any way doing 5:2. I quite enjoy the fast days, and skipping breakfast and lunch to save all my calories for dinner suits my lifestyle. I find I enjoy chocolate and cake a lot more now because I don't eat them all the time. In general my food choices are better too. On non-fast days I have a fresh fruit salad for breakfast (something I was already doing before 5:2), usually a sandwich for lunch and whatever the rest of the family is eating for dinner. I seem to have lost my desire to snack (I...

Yesterday I completed my second fasting day. Success! My copy of The FastDiet book arrived in the mail from Amazon as well, so I spent much of the afternoon reading that.

I decided to try splitting my 500 calories into a morning and evening meal this time. For breakfast, I had a blended smoothie made with almond milk, frozen mango, pineapple and banana chunks, with hemp seeds and a bit of greek yogurt added for protein. I added some extra water and ice cubes to bulk it up and it was quite filling. Of course I had to have my morning coffee with some soy creamer as well.

A big part of my motivation to do this plan is for the metabolic benefits, so my goal is to have the longest period of "no calories" as possible on my fast days. Yesterday I had my breakfast smoothie at 7:45 am and drank water and black tea for the rest of the day. This was a work day for me and I work from home, sitting at a desk for 12 hours. Normally, I find that I look forward to my "eating breaks"...

Day 2 ("feast")
I have decided I will be definitely doing 4:3 instead of 5:2 for now.
I am also going to try to blog at the end of each day to recap and will share my intake and observations.
As I suspected on my first up day I would feel too hungry when I first woke up to wait to have only one main evening meal.
My fiancé bought our favorite breakfast protein cookies (350) last night and he started eating his when we got home so I anticipated waking up to it all night. I regretted it though, not because I'm
Down on myself about not waiting for dinner but because it literally felt like a brick in my stomach and zapped my energy until noon. After so many years of forcing myself to bulk up on breakfast I'm so over it. I'm also having a bit of a volatile stomach (PMS) and it just didn't make me
Feel good.

However I'm Not going to rule out being able to make up days into one meal a day affairs. Based on today I did feel Less hungry for a whole workday then I thought I would. ...
