Hello Everyone. First blog ever. First diet forum ever. I'm Karen, a lifelong dieter like most people here and have not been on a set of scales for many years as I never liked what they said and I figured that so long as I could get into my jeans (ranging between a UK 6 to 12) I was fine..........

That all changed this week when I went for a health check up. Blood pressure just in the range of hypertension and a BMI of 26. Now I know that does not seem horrible compared to some of these fabulous success stories on this forum, but I hit 50 last year and getting fed up of yo-yoing, falling off the diet when I drink too much wine, and getting up in the morning feeling a bit stiff and creaky.

I have done every single diet under the sun. You name it, I'm an expert, but it used to be about the dress size. This time its about health, so with a different motivation this time just might be different, (as heard on the programme "the Men that made us thin"). After that, something...

Back to the real world. I had a wonderful 4 week European trip! Amazing and lots of food. My first night home I had gained 9 lbs! But it turned out to be a lot of water retention. My legs were swelled up from 24 hours of flights. So by the next morning I had dropped 5 lbs! wow and my legs looked normal. My stomachs been funny this first week home and haven't felt up to fasting/repairing. So today is my first fast in about 6 weeks. I want to lose those 5 lbs and get back to where I was before vacation.

Also, now that it is summer time, my 13 year old daughter is home and might notice that I'm not eating. I don't want her to worry about weight, so I'm trying to hide this diet from her.

I'm in the dumps because my vacation is over and I need to distract myself. Plan to go watch the hubby in a Kitesurfing race for cancer today. Just feeling sorry for myself. Get over it already!

Here's to a successful repair day.

I started 5:2 11 days ago and this morning had my first weigh in and results so far are very pleasing. What is even better is that it hasn't been too much of a struggle- which is a real bonus. Today is fast number 5 so here goes. Good luck to all my fellow fasters today. :geek:

I have always struggled with my weight. That sentence is probably the problem right there...

In fact I haven't always struggled with my weight. When I was a kid, I didn't struggle at all; I just ate whatever I wanted. And when I was a teenager, I continued to eat exactly what I wanted, but I was active and I LOVED being active - whether it was a dance class or a bush walk or a random baseball game or a leisurely walk on the beach. I wasn't any good at sports but I loved to be active. Somehow that kept the weight off, and effortlessly too.

But I always thought I was fat. Compared to some of the kids you see now, I wasn't fat at all. I was 'big boned' (what is that?). But not fat. That didn't stop kids from calling me fat, because inevitably I was indeed the 'fattest' kid in the class.

Even up through my first pregnancy at age 38, I remained fit and relatively 'unfat'. It was only after my second pregnancy at age 40, that the weight started piling on. I still ate exactly what...

I was doing so well today, had 1 rice cracker, 2 bits of cucumber and 1/4 of chicken for lunch and a slim.fast for breakfast. But then my neighbor came round with a fresh home made loaf of granary bread and proceeded to cut me a slice and butter it, seeing as she would of taken huge offence if i hadn't eaten it, i had to at it and 2 more slices, taking me way over my limit, may as well give up for the day now seeing as the whole day is ruined! :( Guess i'll have to start again on Monday.....

Oh and in case your wondering, yes she knows i'm doing the 5:2 but she has dementia and today apparently was a bad day for her,
