Well, I must be a good few weeks into my diet. I wonder sometimes if I'll ever get down to my target weight. Sometimes I go a week without seeing any loss, I'm sure I'm not the only one to feel this frustration. My clothes do fit much better and I feel sharper, mentally. The diet suits me too; no continual calorie counting, just two days a week where life is a bit tough. I fast on Wednesdays and Saturday. The Wednesday is quite easy but Saturday is a bit tough. I chose Saturday because it stops me from doing the usual Saturday blitz (curry, etc). I hope all my other 5:2ers are all getting along and loosing weight without too many 'issues'.

I'm noticing that underneath the hair on my forearms, I've clearly got a vein that protrudes on both forearms. The underside (as pale as it is) has always had visible veins. However, this is the first time I've seen a vein on the top of my forearms. This may be as a result of converting significant fat to muscle these last 12 months. Before I was this active, I captured the following note over 2 years ago:
Code: Select all
##### ENTRY ##### 2011-07-17,
WEIGHT: 217
TOTAL-INCHES: 153.8
Measured in cm its 390.75

Current BMI from my Tanita scale is 20 (its known to fluctuate widely). Apparently back in 2006, I was measuring BMI at 22 using the Tanita scale. I just remeasured the 'total inches' metric (as described in 4 Hour Body by Timothy Ferriss): 154.0 inches.

I've got some mild strength loss. Probably due to being at the gym only twice in the last 30 days. I started to lose my grip on the barbell when dead-lifting 295 pounds today ...

So yes, the food intolerance thing — while the failsafe diet is definitely helping me with stuff like insomnia and brain fog etc, and I'm staying on it — the diary / gluten etc stuff didn't have any impact on my digestive well-being, nor my weight, in the longer term.

The failsafe diet isn't exactly low cal (plenty of carbs and fats), and I've put on another 2 kg. But last week, my doctor halved my mirtazapine dose (which I've been on for insomnia for over 9 years), and my appetite has definitely reduced. I restarted 5:2 about a month ago, now that the elimination diet is done. And since being on the reduced dose (15 mg) of mirtazapine, I am losing weight more steadily now, and staying down on non-fasting days (that's a first).

Only one week in, fingers crossed ...

Skirts and kickers arrivied yesterday, skirts still too big and went back, replacements came today and fit okay. Think it's the sizing rather than weight loss, still 1stone 6lbs is fine by me.

My last post (at the end of June) was something along the lines of seeing less of me - due to having lost a lot of weight but also swanning off to Africa to house sit for some friends over the summer months. There's been more than a few traumas over the last few months, so forgive me if I fill you in a bit, just so you realise the reason for my absence.

We had an absolutely fabulous time away in Africa - hubby and I were house sitting for friends in Dar es Salaam for 6 weeks- our 3 grown up kids came out to join us for a fortnight half way through and we all went on safari together - had an amazing time. Memories to last a lifetime!!

While we were away Bob's (my husband) brother-in-law had had his twin brother come and stand in and take Bob's place on the building site over in Essex (they were doing a project together for a bit of fun, as well as hopefully some sort of financial investment) - well the day we flew home we were told that he had died whilst working on site the previous week...
