Today is the first day of my new diet. I can't say I find it easy but I can't say I find it very hard either.

It's almost 3h30PM and I had half of my daily intake. I saw most people prefer to wait as late as possible before eating anything because once you start to eat, you're likely to feel hungry sooner. I also want to try to cut down on sugar and carbs on fast days because I hear they make you hungrier as well.

Before lunch I had a coffee with a little soy milk and one sugar. I just saw that almond milk has much less calories that soy so I might switch to that on fast days (although I prefer the taste of soy milk in coffee). Around 2 o'clock I had a nice spinach salad with a homemade vinaigrette and a few almonds. It was quite filling but I realize it might not be the best approach since the olive oil in vinaigrette takes up a lot of calories. It's a good fat but not really filling in itself so next fast day I might try to focus on choosing food that fill more with less calories....

Found yesterday's fast surprisingly easy and slept well. Had poached eggs on toast for breakfast this morning in spite of not being particularly hungry. Some people have commented that they don't eat breakfast the day after a fast day but I've decided to do two fast days and five normal eating days. I don't want to drift into doing something I am not yet convinced is healthy ie going for very long periods without eating. I'm happy to trial 5:2 for a month and see how I get on. What I don't want to do is launch myself into something full tilt and find I can't keep it up. So I'm tackling this step by step and if in the future I decide to change my eating pattern on my non-fasting days then I might do so.

As for today I have been surprised that I haven't been hungrier. I've enjoyed what I've eaten but haven't craved snacks or nibbles. That may change and I'm going to use this blog to monitor how I feel about food and eating on fast and non-fast days.

Feel supported by all the comments and...

Current Actual Weight: 72.3kg (11 stone 5 pounds)
Current Trend Weight: 72.8kg (11 stone 6 pounds)

When I got up yesterday morning, it wasn't as frosty as what it was on the previous day, but there was a cold wind blowing to make it equally important that I stock up on hot, low carb snacks. Consequently, I continued with my break from 16:8 and ate the same breakfast as yesterday (please read yesterday's blog entry for details of that) except that I had replaced yesterday's scrambled eggs with two poached eggs.

Another big difference from the previous day, was that I had a gym session which means that I was going to be burning more calories. That made me feel confident that I would be able to avoid the same weight gain as what I showed yesterday, even if I were to eat the same diet. I have another android app installed which helps me to log my cardio results and with that, I have set a target for burning 1,000 calories over my two gym sessions on Sundays and Wednesday (this app counts...

Well, today has been my first fasting day and I have found it quite easy. I am sure this is because I have only just started and I am enthusiastic and excited about the prospect of losing weight in this new way to me.

I have spent my whole life trying to control my weight, juggling work, my one and only child, family and my dogs single handed for the majority of my time.

I needed something that did not mean too much planning was required as I just don't have the time to spend hours planning meals. Lucklily, as I do spend a lot of time on my own at home I do freeze quite a lot of what I cook into portions, so it does not take too much effort to work out and write on the containers the calories within.

This will, I hope, stand me in good stead for fasting days.

Well, I will try and write this blog each day or as often as possible, not only for something to look back on in times of weakness but also I hope in time to encourage others to try the plan too. I aim to put my daily menu on...
