Into my third week now and the scales are showing a steady loss which is maintained during the weekend of naughtiness. I have to say that I owe a lot to low cal hot chocolate about 36cals and ainsley H's low cal soups, Thai chicken 92cals and hot and sour 66cals. Somehow a filling, hot liquid seems to fill that gap.

I've never had a blog before, but after reading blogs on here I felt inspired and thought it might give me some focus. By the way, I must apologise for how long this has turned out to be!

So I suppose I should explain a little about me. I'm 23 and have been struggling with my weight since I was a teen - probably peaking around my 20th birthday at around about 12 st. I'm not actually sure of the exact weight - scales were not my friend!

I was in denial about my weight - I am only 5 ft 2 and did not carry the weight well, but never seemed to notice/didn't want to notice. My jeans were too small, but so what? I'd swap for leggings. I got out of breath just walking to uni, but hey, sports weren't for me! I used to have very heated arguments with my mum where she'd call me fat and leave weight watchers discount vouchers is my room, and then I'd just eat more and more and think it wasn't my problem, if she didn't like the way I was she could deal with it. And on I went in ignorant bliss, only...

Today I can't stop eating rubbish... I have chocolate and m&m's coming out of my ears. I'm not even hungry and I'm just eating... Why am I doing this to myself? I'm going to end up undoing all the good behaviours and weight I've lost. I'm a little bit worried. I'm hoping when I go back to work tomorrow I'll have structure again and be in control of everything. I feel so low and miserable right now, full of self loathing.

I'm completely new to all this. My practice nurse advised me to try this diet. I wanted to try it in March but my GP said just stick to counting calories. Tedious and inflexible, however I lost 11 pounds since January. I want to lose a bit faster and have all the health benefits of fasting so here I am! Had a breakfast of 30g porridge and dried fruit a cup of tea and now sipping sparkling water. Might have a few herbal teas during the day.

Will this work? I'm pretty sick of diets, this seems intuitively more flexible and *natural* religious types have been fasting for centuries, and I'm sure the caveman didn't and wasn't able to have 3 square meals a day. I think it will be nice to just give my body a rest from food rather than shoveling it in every day. Will report back at the end of the day with more thoughts. Over and out.

I'm down about 6-7 lbs. in just six fasts. I think I'll adopt this as an ongoing habit. The trick will soon be not to eat so little that my muscles start to waste away. I am now light enough to optimize my effort on a planned 100 mile bicycle ride next week.
Of course, all that weight I've lost, I'll be putting into a large water-carrying backpack and two water bottles, which I'll carry on my ride.
