Six months on from my last fast. In the final months of the PhD it was just too hard to fast and study. I've put weight on as a result, not sure how much as I dare not get on the scales. PhD submitted, viva over, but major revisions required, so I shall be studying for another year  . However, I can't afford to keep on putting on weight. So, I plan to start again this week. Aiming for 4:3, but will be happy with 5:2. Starting with Monday and Wednesday this week, then up to Monday-Wednesday-Friday next week.

Part B of the plan is to increase my walking to 10,000 steps a day. I'm currently averaging about 6000 and plan to add 500 a day until I reach goal, by doing 500 more than I did on the same day the previous week.

Back on the wagon, I'll be dipping into the forums again, soon!

After a good beginning, doing my first fast on Christmas Eve and fitting in 4 fasts before the New Year, I was looking at my tracking calendar today and realised I've only done 1 fast this year, so far!

The first 5 days of the year was spent camping and kayaking in extremely hot weather. I had not planned to fast then and did not. Back to work on the 6th and my first fast day of the year. It went well, with work keeping me way too busy to even think about being hungry.

But then I fell into a hole called PMS. Not all months are the same and this one has been a particularly bad one. The migraine started on Wednesday and continued through Thursday and Friday. All the pain med combinations I tried, barely put a dent in the pain...it was awful. And being the kind of person I am, I worked through all 3 days, even when my boss asked if I didn't think I should just go home. ...

I knew that feeling as soon as I opened my eyes this morning, the feeling that has caused me to sabbotage previous 'diets'. That feeling that leads you straight to the fridge, cupboard anywhere food is hiding. I felt of low mood, first time since starting this way of eating and i am sure very linked to my hormonal cycle. Im due to weigh in tomorrow but am very frightened to get on the scales because I can physically see the build up of fluid in my hands, which I know from past experience will result in weight gain. I am a slow loser of weight at the best of times, time to think tactics!
First thing I did, a very long walk, to help lift the mood, its helped a little.
Secondly, Got...

So as I predicted my weight went up after 2 days of feast. The weight today is 78.5kg that is still .900g lower than the starting weight. so far so good. today is my 3rd fast day and I am pretty relaxed compared to the 1st one especially and the 2nd one. I had a nice dinner and this morning I am really fine, not thinking about food that much and I have already planned my meals for the day. As I thought 600cals are quite a bit of food and if I look closely to what i can eat i realize I have lots of choice and plenty of food. I now just need to get organised with the shopping and have what i need in advanced so not to eat always the same stuff.
Today I have thought to start with fennel again since I find it very good and above all seasonal. Just weighted what i brought with me to work and it goes 525g that are 47cals. I have planned to eat mushed potatoes at lunch and a veal steack at dinner that give me 400cals for the day. I have therefore still 200cals to spare that will be probably a...

I have just almost finished my 4th fast and I can honestly say it is getting easier. I can't believe that I can go a whole day with very few calories and not suffer at all.
The other really pleasant thing is that my taste buds are revitalized and the food I eat tastes so much better than it used to.
Good luck to all new fasters and keep on going
