So my last few fast days haven't been very..well..fasty...Last week was the irritating time of the month and the associated pains were made worse by fasting, so kept to roughly 1000 a day, bar Thursday when I bought a "sympathy cake" it was quickly eaten and greatly appreciated! Oh Sofia and Stu got a slice, but I got the rest! also completely forgot to do my exercises, so that was clever of me!

On the up side of things, I am now happily growing potatoes, carrots, parsley, mustard and thyme in varying plant pots, already have some shoots poking through, so hooray, will be a regular Charlie Dimmok (but with a bra!) in no time! Looking forward to munching into a homegrown jacket potato some time soon! ...

Well time flies and today the anniversary of my embarking on the 5:2 journey. I am fasting today as well, being tad symbolic. Finding 6:1 is now enough to maintain my initial losses. I would love to do more but my instincts tell me to keep the pedal off for a while and then when all feels well, get back and continue to whittle away towards lower BMI. Healthy range for me is 25 and I am around 27. Always weighed heavy so maybe I am were I need to be.

Thoroughly enjoying cooking at present and have churned out some 10 out of 10 meals according to my DH, the constant recipient of my culinary delights and disasters. Last night was my favourite way to do turkey mince in cottage pie which is lots of small chunks of chopped up veggies, garlic, the turkey mince fried up and then flavour with nutmeg, soy sauce and veggie stock, thicken with cornstarch. Pop this in a pie dish and my 5:2 low carb tweak was to top with a celeriac mash and then on top of that a crumble of chopped fresh parsley,...

Next week I am on a first aid course for 3 days and 1 of those days is normally a fast day. Therefore I have decided that I will fast Mon, Tues instead of Mon, Thursday next week so I am not fasting while I am on the course. I am hoping that I will be able to do this, I have found that on my non fast days I don't tend to eat till about 2.30 when I have lunch and then eat tea between 6.30 and 7. So hoping that I can last out on Tuesday till my tea and then be fine on the evening after my fast day meal. I have my meals planned and I do look forward to my fast day meals as they are normally something I wouldn't normally eat as no one else in the house would eat them.

For the 3 day course I am going to be taking my salad lunches and some fruit and again hoping not to eat till lunchtime as I have found that I seem to be able to skip breakfast easily. I have wednesdays tea sorted, Friday I am planing a take away night, just need to decided what to do Thursday as that is my normal fast day and...

I completed my 3rd fast on Monday; and I over-celebrated my accomplishment the day-after for the 3rd time as well. I was worried about fasting - I'd never done a fast before so it's logical to focus on every aspect of your fast day. You want to stay within the allocated amount of calories, and you want to use those calories wisely so that you receive the biggest bang per calorie consumed. And I've done fabulously well on fast days - but I crash and burn the day after. Right now, for me, I need to have a firm plan in place for the day-after my fasting. Simply consuming those "lost" calories the next day is not where I want to be. Truthfully, I need to focus on all seven days of the week; not just the two fast days. Making intelligent decisions on which foods I eat and how much I eat has to be a way of life and not just a part-time endeavor. Taming my hunger monster is an ongoing battle, for it adapts to my diet plans and controls me on other days of the week. I hate my...

I know, not a real word but how I feel just now. I have been giving a lot of thought to my diet and where I go from here. Firstly, I am going to continue to fast, this is an important part of my life now. I will not always succeed but I will keep trying. Secondly, I am returning to my vegetarian lifestyle. I started eating meat for my hubby who likes to eat out. French restaurants on the whole have a problem with vegetarian food. I have now found a source of veggie sausages etc which will help. I also have the River Cottage veg cook book to find things to cook from scratch that I can source here. It will not be easy but I have never been haapy being a meat eater. It has felt like I was being untrue to myself. As of today no meat. I have a sense of relief.
I am also going to eat more fruit and veg to replace the cake and bicuits. I am not saying I will never make or eat another cake just I will not always have cake in the tins. It is dangerous for me to ban any food ( other than meat) permanently....
