I have just had my first fast day and discovered just how addicted to sugar I have become. Think I might conquer this by being on the 5:2. However, when working out what to eat, that I might find palatable, my total calories always come somewhere between 500-650.
Having added up the calories for a typical days eating, I find my usual daily calorie count is somewhere between 2200 and 2600. Obviously too much, but then I am a large lady (5'9") who has remained at 16 and a half stone for a number of years.
I am not going to give myself a hard time over this. Especially as having weighed myself after my first time at 5:2 the scales showed I had gone under my usual weight.
So I shall be going for 500-650 calories per fast day.
I won't eat after 8.00pm the night before the fast day and won't eat until 12.00pm the day after. That will give me a 40 Hour fast. I found that timing quite comfortable.

Found yesterday's fast surprisingly easy and slept well. Had poached eggs on toast for breakfast this morning in spite of not being particularly hungry. Some people have commented that they don't eat breakfast the day after a fast day but I've decided to do two fast days and five normal eating days. I don't want to drift into doing something I am not yet convinced is healthy ie going for very long periods without eating. I'm happy to trial 5:2 for a month and see how I get on. What I don't want to do is launch myself into something full tilt and find I can't keep it up. So I'm tackling this step by step and if in the future I decide to change my eating pattern on my non-fasting days then I might do so.
As for today I have been surprised that I haven't been hungrier. I've enjoyed what I've eaten but haven't craved snacks or nibbles. That may change and I'm going to use this blog to monitor how I feel about food and eating on fast and non-fast days.

This is a sad post. The cheap and nasty Kmart scales gave up the ghost when OH overbalanced on them last week. We ordered a new set from the supplier recommended by Amanda Salis, They arrived on Monday in a big delivery truck which pulled up outside our house. They are weighty and solid, not battery operated I would think. I waited until Tuesday morning, post fast, to weigh myself.
Sadly, they say I am 70 kg. Today, post non-fast, they said 71. This is sad because getting to under 70 was my Christmas Club goal which I met. Then I met the 65 kg goal which put my BMI under 25.
Everyone said our scales were dodgy. I knew in my heart of hearts that I was still overweight, fat.
I am trying not to be depressed because it doesn't alter the fact that I have lost 13kg of weight, gone down a size in jeans. But I do feel that I have to go back to where I was before Christmas, and now it's not summer any more.

I'm really knackered! I know there is scientific evidence to show that being tired can affect your weight and I can see that this week. I'm monitoring what I eat and I haven't been going wild, but neither have I found it easy to say no to things. I'm going for damage limitation and I'm fairly sure this week will be an epic fail, BUT doing this eating plan is not a sprint and like everything else in life there comes a time where things go off track.
The main thing is to acknowledge that rather than hide from it. So I need to catch up on my sleep, get myself organised and get back on the camel. There's an opportunity coming up to do a 4:3 - if I don't do it you have my permission to come to Scotland and kick my butt (bring your own wellies!)
Hope your day goes well

After getting to normal BMI, I thought I would take things a bit easier but still continue 5/2. Was really delighted to have lost another 700g this week while eating cake 5 days a week.
