Yesterday being the one of the first dry,mild-warm days and with nothing planned for the day,I thought it about time to give both front and back gardens the attention they desperately needed. I'm not really one for trying to upstage or keep up with the Joneses.....But our frontage was beginning to look rather unkept. Weeding/pruning/mowing and mulching (all thats needed now is some colourful seasonal planting) and kerbside appeal has returned  The threat of rain in the afternoon wasn't seeming likely so now was a good as time as any to tackle the back. Not huge by any means.....a small patio area for which we have slabs and paving bricks to relay....(DID THAT-but need to level...

It is Sunday. I am sick with a cold. I feel yucky. I don't know if I will fast tomorrow or not. I didn't do my 10,000 steps yesterday, only 8,000 and something. I was busy all day and then at 5pm after a meeting I asked Julie to join me walking in the glomming up the Forth hill and we did. But it didn't get me to 10,000. Today I haven't even put my pedometer in my dressing gown pocket and I haven't got dressed even. Listening to the Baroque and Before Classic FM Countdown. Looking out the window at bare branches of the magnolia tree. Doing the jigsaw. Leftovers for dinner.

Dear all,

Today I started the 5:2 diet, which I have combined with the 16:8 intermittent Fasting window. And today was successful! I did a lot of cleaning in my house to distract me from food, and I also drank a lot of black coffee. Yesterday I tried the one meal a day method of Fasting, and man....that went so wrong. But today I started intermittent fasting again (fortunately I found my motivation again), but not as strict as that OMAD fast. I hope this is something I can live with.

Here is what I ate today, and what I will probably eat all fast days:

Around 1-2 o'clock: A cup of cottage cheese (around 200 calories) with 1/2 cucumber (23 calories)
Then, a few hours later I ate 4 eggwhites with a little bit of mayonaise. (104 calories)
For 'dinner' I drank a Cambridge proteïn shake (153 calories)
Then I was somehow still a bit hungry, so I ate 2 celery sticks (13 calories)
I drank 3 cups of coffee containing a total of 24 calories.

I am so glad that today went well without experiencing ...

Last week I started on the fast diet. I'd ignored it for too long but couldn't ignore the people close to me who have lost weight and look amazing. I read about it, dowloaded an app, downloaded the book onto my kindle, found this website and started last week along with my oldest daughter who is 26. We both are not overly overweight, me about 2 stone, and my daughter about 1 stone. We both started on the Tuesday of last week and we both had a headache at the end of the day, despite drinking loads of water. But I know it was the sugar withdrawal, we both had a lot of chocolate on the Easter weekend! On the Thursday Jenny was ok, but I was quite ill. My husband did his usual rolling his eyes, blaming the diet, but I told him it was the gin I'd had the night before and he was very obliging and came home from work early so I could go to bed! It wasn't the gin btw but I couldn't cope with his rolling eye thing he does. Anyway, today, Monday, which is my fast day, changed from Tuesday, is...

I've been meaning to do this for a few weeks - given that I've been doing 5:2 for exactly that - a few weeks.

It's going well and I'm honestly impressed with the whole 5:2 lifestyle.

Day 1
I remember it well, because it was bloody awful! I thought I had planned it well - but it turns out I didn't. I held off from eating for too long, and it got to 8pm, I had started to make porridge (of all things) but I felt sick before it was finished, not to mention faint. Even the smell of it... so I went upstairs to bed, had a cry (I know, but it made me feel better) and luckily my better my half was coping much better than me, and made me lots of toast. One bite and my appetite was back!

So lessons learnt - plan what you're going to eat, do 5:2 with your partner if you can, or a friend, and don't try to go all day without food. I think it takes time to get used to it for...
