I am home from my holiday in Cradle Mountain. There were 12 of us, old friends and friends of friends, staying for 3 nights in cabins and eating together each night.

First to mention: everyone who was there who has known me for a long time commented on my spectacular weight loss. I forget, but old friends are a very good reminder of how far I have come.

Second, I was a lot faster going up the hills than in Feb '13 when I did the Overland Track with some of those people. They noticed that. It stands to reason. I left 14 kg at the bottom of the mountain.

Third, my special bushwalking pants, quite expensive, bought specially for the Overland Track in Feb '13, were threatening to fall down to my ankles. Specially when they got wet and my iphone was in the pocket.

My new scales gave me 69kg last Friday, after a fast day. I am only going to weigh once a week, on Friday. I am going to enter it into the tracker, religiously. I am not going to join any challenges or set any goals, other...

Its a little odd, I have been out at a Christmas party today, which was great, and have perversely not eaten as much as I might do on some Sundays. However, I have not had the usual drive to fast tomorrow because I have not over-eaten! I have no doubt that I shall have to concentrate on Sundays in the new year as well as on my fast days to reduce my calorie intake to get me to a healthy weight. Still early days in intermittent fasting for me, and I shall just have to keep on as others have done before me and experiment.

After reading the 5:2 book while on holiday - yes, at the side of the pool, in a bikini. I'm aware of the irony. I decided to try it out as soon as I got home, literally the next day and have now been on the diet a week.

In this first week I seem to have the same early success as a lot of other members with a whole 3lb loss!!!

I decided I needed to do something when I realised how much weight I've slowly but surely accumulated. I've never been a thin girl but from usually hovering round the 10st (140lbs) mark to a few years later being around 12st (about 170lbs) or just under, a change needs to be made.

I've set a competition with someone in work over a 3 month span and one of those has quickly been eaten up with no weight change, (these first 3lbs just being holiday and weight from being back at home with a feeder of a mother) I need to get cracking for the next 2. I'm a little competitive...

Help! I am not happy. I have gained a whopping 8lb in the last two weeks. Yes I ate, 1/2 a banoffee pie a week ago however, this was to celebrate my successful completion of a 1/2 marathon.

The first of the two weeks I didn't get weighed and I ate normally, I decided not to fast for fear of leaving me drained for the race, then when I finished I ate a large meal. The week after I was a little bit naughtier than I would be normally, deciding again not to fast as I wanted my body to recover well with lots of protein etc. Then to my horror on the scales on Friday morning, I had gained a whopping EIGHT pounds.

Therefore, tomorrow I am fasting, and will continue to do so every Monday and Friday despite training for Sunderland half marathon. Afterall, if I don't get this 8lb off running will be like carrying an heavy backpack.

Sigh. Sigh. Sigh. ...

I have still not fasted. It's now two weeks since my last fast and I'm getting irritated with myself. I'm just about 16:8, but with no scales its hard to judge how much I have gained. So a combination of going back to high carb and no fasting is bound to have had an impact.

Today I order a Withings scale to try and re-motivate/shock me back into getting into a fasting routine. I'm still only a couple weeks into the new job in a new country, so I suppose I should give myself some space. Still, I really do need to get a grip because I know I'm undoing my hard work.
