Have you read "Willpower: Rediscovering the Greatest Human Strength"?
It was in the new quite a bit when it first came out; the basic premise (of course, there's much more to it in the book!) is that "willpower" is finite and can be depleted by the routine decisions we make every day (as well as strengthened by "exercising" it). So, if you can set up your life to reduce the number of decisions (choices) you need to make--such as what to eat--you can "save" your willpower for more important things. This is one reason I seldom vary my light days; doesn't give my little voice a chance to talk me out of fasting, I "just do it!" on Mondays and Thursdays, no discussion, thank you very much! Also, planning what you will eat ahead of time (even on normal days; maybe especially on normal days, since it's easy to go overboard if you don't have a plan) makes a big difference too. Research found that something as simple as not having an offered pastry...

Got a lovely compliment from one of my co-workers today about how trim I was looking. It was nice because I was beginning to think that no one was noticing. I'm glad to see that someone else can see the changes that are happening.

I hit a new low number today, bringing my total loss to 14.5 pounds now. Yeah! Only a few more to go till I hit my interim goal weight of 209 pounds. I picked that number because it was the lowest number I saw in 2012 (while doing WW the last time). Once I get past that number I'll entering new territory on the scale for the first time in a long time. And I'm really excited about that.

Today I had a lovely lunch with a friend who is off on sick leave after knee surgery. I brought lunch (quiche, salad, and pumpkin pie) and we had a nice visit. Currently I'm at home and had been considering finishing off the last few cookies but stopped myself when I realized that I wasn't hungry. What an empowering decision to really stop, think about it, and then...

My weight loss has been rather slow, with lots of high spikes between fasting days. In the last week or so I've been adding in the occasional 16:8 day on 'feed' days. Seems to be helping - my weight holds steady now between fast days, and my rate of loss looks like it might be increasing a bit.

Not finding it hard to do, either. I usually start eating around 1 pm, and don't eat after 9 pm.

Still a long way to go, 20+ kg ... but I'm nearly 4 kg down now, since starting in late April.

It's amazing I have lost a stone, it makes me think it's all been worth it, in such a short amount of time. Now I have to get below 17 stone, I haven't seen 16 on my scales for years, it will be a time when I will be feeling the most proud of my achievements and may shed a tiny tear

I have to start upping the anti on the exercise front, I really don't like it, but it has to be done, otherwise my bingo wings are going to stay flappy and not tone up, so tomorrow is the start of a new day and 30 mins exercise will be incorporated in to my day,

Once again good luck everyone, if I can do this anyone can

I'm thinking we're all doing the 5:2 (or 4:3 or whatever else) for a reason, some more or less successfully than others. (see previous blog entry).

One of the key outcomes for each one of us will be some kind of change: physically, mentally, spiritually, behaviourally, or even a combination of all of those (and feel free to insert any of your own choosing too) Mine is one of identity and purpose related to health and longevity of life with the weight being treated as a welcome bonus.

For any change to be effective the higher up the neurological levels you make that change the more effective and long lasting it will be. I offer this as support for those who are making change at too low a level for effectiveness and I will explain more about the levels. It will help with a picture:
