I forgot to say in my other entry that I started the 5:2 diet reluctantly. I have like many others done EVERY diet on the planet and was at the stage in my life were I was bored and fed up with my yo yo dieting over the last 30 ish years. However my daughter was getting married in August 2013 so I started the diet in February. It's a good job I did as the weight loss was slower than I expected. However the thing that kept me going more than anything was my husband Simon. He suggested and started the diet with me. I am competitive and I couldn't let him lose weight and me stay the same. He lost it a lot quicker than me, 2 stone in 4 months. I was proud of him. But if I'm being honest I was also a bit peeved at his steady weight loss and how easy he found it .grrrrrrrr. Anyway he kept me motivated and I am still going thanks to him! He looks amazing and is now off his blood pressure tablets for the first time in five years . Amazing! So thank you my Hubby, for kicking my a** Lol

First week gone and lost 3lb an 1 inch on my waist. Also managed to get to the local 20m swimming pool for the first time in 6 weeks and notch up 100 lengths. Told my close friend i was doing this and she is not convinced it is a good idea so also now something to prove to her - she is fit and slim!!
Looking forward to fastday today.

Today is my fastiversary. This post will be a little different from others here, but I think it is important that we record all of our experiences as we continue to learn more about fasting and it’s effects over the long term.

I started this way of eating one year ago today as my blood pressure was just slightly higher than normal and my joints were getting stiff and creaky. At a BMI of 26, I was not outrageously overweight, but at 50 I decided that I needed to get it in check rather than let it get any further. I’m a chronic dieter and my BMI has ranged between 20 and 26 (highest) during my adult life. I had also water fasted once a month for the past 20 years and I liked how it made me feel.

The first six weeks were dreadful from a weight loss point of view. I didn’t really lose anything and considered the entire thing a complete waste of time. However my BP returned to normal after four fasts and for that reason, I thought I would hang on in there.

The first four months life was p...

Weight: 8st 11

Wow, I've never had such a shift so quickly. Looking good. Today should be easy as was supposed to eat out but now it turns out that dinner out is cancelled which I'm glad about. I've decided to try make my own coconut yogurt as its really hard to source in Ireland and it costs 4euros for 125g pot. I just couldn't justify that too often. The recipe calls for coconut milk, probiotic capsule sprinled in, leave it in oven for 24hours and then refridgerate. My first batch was too runny but I did use low fat coconut milk. I also wonder about the temperature of the oven- the recipe notes that most ovens are around 110degrees without turning them on - but I doubt thats the case in freezing ireland. So I've tried again with full fat coconut milk. It definitely seems to be settling better. I also turned the oven on for a few minutes to heat it up. I've no thermometer to take the temp in there. A tin of coconut milk is much cheaper than buying the yogurt though so I will find a way...

Hi there! I need to lose a bit of weight, about 5 kg, but I am mainly interested in the side benefits of the 5:2 diet. I am 47 but often feel like I am older, with memory lapses etc.

I started this programme in early March, and though I got great results the first 2 weeks, (2kg) since then the weight loss has dropped off and I am treading water. I have even put some back on at times. The cause isn't hard to find... I just eat to much on my " feast " days. Easter didn't help either: even though I am not a chocoholic, if it is there I eat it... And then to get rid of the sweet flavours I finish up with lots (and I mean lots: I have no stop button!) of crisps. I am still waiting for the cravings to stop, which other people have said has happened to them with this diet.

So this morning I found this site and determined to put in further effort, mainly into being more disciplined on my feast days. I need to severely curtail treats. I have had no problems on fast days... I tend...
