Did my fast day Monday as usual with no problem but we're on hols this week with days away and on the go eating... which is never good. I have another fast day tomorrow which I will again stick to, cause I have to, but have a feeling it wont make any difference and I'll have weight on this week.

Normally this is where I throw the towel in, around the third week, but I've just read through the 'inspirational stories' on here which have reminded me it's a marathon not a sprint, and that I knew that when I started. So with that in mind I'll pull in the eating on the food days for the rest of the week, and keep on going as was. Thanks forum!

I have decided to start a blog. Obviously. The aim is to help me work out strategies to manage/prevent (over) eating when I am not hungry.

A recap on me, in case anyone else reads this. I have been borderline overweight since puberty, with some notable exceptions. I had not dieted since early adulthood but when I retired from paid work, I started putting on more weight. I came across a short article on 5:2 in a magazine, I decided it was something I could do, and I did. I lost on average about half a kg a week, and reached my arbitrary goal after 36 weeks, having lost 18kg to reach a BMI of 21-22. That is now over 3 years ago. I seemed to lose the weight very easily at that time. I followed the basic 5:2 but did make some other changes to my diet - reducing pasta, rice, bread, fruit. My basic diet has always been quite healthy - I already ate a lot of vegetables and not much processed food, but chocolate is a weakness as well as binge eating in the evening. My other major challenge is...

No painkillers today but still some discomfort, but seeing the doc on Wed.

On the eating front I trying to just stay the same weight but I'll get on the scales at the end of the week and see what happens.

I'm begining to bore myself

How many times have you heard it, from friends, from loved ones, parents, sisters, strangers in the queue at the supermarket, whispered behind you on the bus, on the way home from work.

"All you need is WILLPOWER to lose weight". As if it is a major deficiency of mental ability, a social stigma that is the equivalent of having leprosy. "You don't have will power, you weakling!"

For half my life I believed I lacked 'will power', that I had this mental illness that shoved me down the social acceptability scales by many points. All because of one aspect in my life, just one. The inability to lose weight. The worst offender was my mother. She had an overactive thyroid all her life, she couldn't have put on weight if she had tried. But she was the most hurtful critic, I just didn't come up to standards she set, even knowing she had an unfair advantage. The numbers of times she managed to sabotage my weight loss with little snippets of barbed comments along the lines of...

Current Actual Weight: 70.3kg (11 stone 1 pound)
Current Trend Weight: 71.4kg (11 stone 3 pounds)

I wasn't going to write a daily blog entry today and I'm not feeling any real enthusiasm for doing so. However, I wanted to point out how amazed I was this morning when I stepped on the scales. Yesterday was a very careful day as it had to be because it was also the first feeding day after a fasting day. The last time that I had such a careful eating day after a fasting day, I actually went on to lose a little bit more weight which meant that I didn't have to be quite as careful now as what I was then, as my motive just now isn't to lose more weight.

However, the weight loss at this time was very small and that meant that it wouldn't have taken too many extra calories to have turned the weight loss at that time, into a weight gain. Because of that, I stuck with the same calorie intake yesterday as what I consumed a week earlier, with the only difference being that I added an extra three slices...
