Sounds like you have great resolve - you gave up alcohol?? My OH and I have toyed with the idea, but dismissed it as un-doable. But at least we have 2 alcohol-free days a week now! As to exercising I think you're right to build up your fitness before tackling the really challenging cliff walks, having said that if you're considering HIT then you're braver than me! And you've lost so much weight, which is awe-inspiring. I've grown up with the idea of 'low intensity - longer duration' exercising, and although I understand the science has now changed, I still find it counter-intuitive.... I am trying to put short, faster sections into my treadmill jogging sessions but am nervous of anything that involves 'all-out' effort! We'll see. Good luck with it all Penny.
Well done Penny, I'm just happy with fast day = dry day. But respect to you for doing so well. I have to say that I always thought that exercise alone would keep me slim, as it did when I was in my twenties. But then the kiddies came along and the little bits of left overs on the plate. Having to wait till really late when the hubs got home to eat. The happy juice I get from exercise is an essential part of my well being and I hope you get stuck in and hop, hop hop up the fitbit leader board.
Today's the day hub builds up the exercise bike.
Then I will use it, or its name will be White hephalump!

Hi. Just wanted to say I'm 66 inches tall and weigh 210lbs this morning......
I'm going to be following your footsteps ( I hope lol )

Hi jay52; I started at 208lbs and am 5'7"...now hovering around 176 plus or minus, a little over a year in. I did give up booze for 6 weeks, but am back to having my daily beer and occasional glass of wine (love cold rose in the summer!). I find that if I don't restrict myself TOO much, I find this WOL much easier to maintain/cope with...

Losing weight, giving up alcohol... and now EXERCISING?
by PennyForthem on 24 Jan 2014, 11:15
Seriously, my Dryathlon challenge is going very well and I have lost about 3lbs in the last week.
Not only that, but I'm sleeping through the night (makes me sound like a baby, doesn't it?) and waking more refreshed!
I'm dreaming of summer now and nice summer clothes, not the all enveloping, baggy T shirts of previous years. However, I've realised I need to do something to tighten up the midriff area and what else can I fall back on, but the dreaded exercise!
I was clearing around the treadmill yesterday (it makes a good area for propping stuff on!) and hopped on it, still wearing my slippers. Not recommended!
Fitbit gave a disappointing step reading of around 1800 for about 15 mins brisk-ish walking. Now, I'm not one to do things half heartedly, so if I'm going to exercise, I'm going to exercise!
I have bought the kindle version of 'Fast exercise' and was thoroughly engrossed in it, up to bedtime last night (probably accounted for the good night's sleep!).
We have set ourselves some lovely walks around the Anglesey Coastal path this summer, so I'll need my fitness levels to be better before I tackle some of the more challenging sections.
I did a bit of treadmill and walking last summer, so I need to build on that and I do like the sound of HIT; once I've read right to the end of Dr Moseley's book, I'll be in a better position to devise a little programme for myself.
My goal is to get my waist down to half my height - and I am 66 inches tall. 2 inches to lose, then.
Goals:
Lose 1.5 lbs
Lose 2 inches off waist
Get fitter (no measureable goal for that, yet)
Grow old disgracefully!! No, gracefully!
And walk some of the cliff sections around Anglesey, with hubs and camera!
