At least I know why I haven't lost any weight in two weeks despite being well-behaved. My labs came back and my thyroid slowing meds are too strong - my thyroid levels are actually too low now. The doctor reduced my dosage by 25%, so here's hoping the weight loss picks back up :-)

The last time this happened, the doctor ended up steadily reducing my dosage and eliminating it over about an 8 month period. Wish me luck! :clover:

Just testing the blog really, but interested in fat oxidation rates reported in scientific papers.

1. After 3 days total fasting the fat burn of young healthy weight men rose from 5.1 g/h to 5.7 g/h while their metabolic rate fell from 73.5 kcal/h to 67.8 kcal/h. Carbohydrate utilisation fell from 3.1 to 1.5 g/h reflecting a shift from carbohydrate to fat as fuel.

2. Obese women dieting using VLC diet showed a reduction in fat oxidation from 2.0 to 1.2 g/h while resting energy expenditure fell from 1246 to 1076 kcal/day. Carbohydrate oxidation increased from 5.0 to 6.3 g/h. Values are before / after a 13 kg weight loss / 10 kg fat loss.

Well I have been doing 5:2 since January 8 and I have to say I think it's brilliant. Today is my 19th fast day.

I'm not losing weight at the speed I would quite hope for, but I have other issues to factor in. The biggest one is my hyperactive thyroid/Graves Disease, for which I have to take medication to slow my thyroid down. I'm pretty sure that's putting a bit of a damper on the weight loss as at my weight I really ought to be losing a bit more quickly.

On the bright side, not only have I stopped gaining weight (this medication really makes you gain weight), but I've lost 9 pounds so far. I am technically no longer morbidly obese per my BMI, which is wonderful. Although I'm still obese, so there's loads more work to go.

Interestingly, I feel like this diet has put me in touch with my body. Now, when I eat an inappropriate amount of food, I actually feel a bit sick. That's fantastic! I had actually been a bit jealous of people who would get these sorts of cues from their body,...

I had a couple of requests a while back regarding the addition of some form of journal/blog system for the forums.

Well, here it is :) I found a Blog addon which seems to work quite well and have installed it, tinkering just enough to make it fit in with our rather fancy forum layout ;)

I don't know if many folks are going to use the blog, but you're all more than welcome to set up your own.

You should find a new 'Blog' tab in your user control panel, where you can set up who can access your blog and what you want it to be called.

I know it's not super fancy like other online blogging systems, but it's quite a nice little addon and easy to use for people who are accustomed to using the forums.

Do let me know if you find any bugs etc. Yes, I know sometimes the blue bar on the left doesn't have anything in it, that's just...
