Well it appears to be working....

by viktory on 13 Feb 2014, 06:05

....I've just woken up to a winy and wet Thursday, safe in the knowledge that my fasting is done for the week. I fasted Monday and Wednesday. Monday was OK, Wednesday was tougher, but I got through it. I also did HIIT and weight training on my fast days and am glad I can enjoy the rest of the week. Strange how appealing a simply bowl of cereal and sandwich is! I had vaguely planned to add in Friday as a fast day, but I don't think I will.

Weighed myself this morning and I'm another 2lb down, with an inch off my tummy, so this does appear to be working. I am glad as I'm not feeling 100% today. I'm tired with aching muscles (as a result of the gym). No walk for the dog today (not with me anyway!).

I am going to enjoy a leisurely morning, with a long hot shower before work.

Onwards and upwards.

The day after....

...so I fasted on Friday (7th Feb) and despite going to bed hungry on Friday night I slept really well. An interesting side effect was that I had loads of energy on Saturday and after a pleasing weigh in and a healthy breakfast, I got a load of housework done.

I have decided on a healthy eating/diet plan that I think will work for me. One of the hardest things in my opinion, is finding a regime that works for you. It is too easy to see what others have done (peers, siblings, celebrities) and slavishly copy them. I am bucking the trend and am going to do the following:

* Fast two days of the week (always a Monday and one other day to be decided on an ad hoc basis. The reason for the Monday fast is because I'll have a big Sunday dinner and so it makes sense to make the following day afast day.)
* Eat healthily for the remaining three working days of the week. This means trying to stick to around 1200 - 1500 cals per day and eschewing wine for the five working days of the week. This...

So the journey has begun

by viktory on 08 Feb 2014, 08:39

I'm fat. Not big, heavy, chubby or jolly. Fat. FAT. Carrying too much weight, mostly around the middle. According to a popular newspaper I am going to keel over any minute now of a heart attack, breast cancer or something else equally unpleasant. I've dieted. Lots. Once I dieted down to 9 stone. I looked fabulous. For what felt like 10 minutes. Now I am middle aged and fat. I also have high cholesterol and a parent with diabetes. So I've decided to take the slow and steady path and after years of yo yo dieting try the 5:2 diet.

I weighed 14 stone 10 at my fattest. I lost 7lb of that on a standard diet at the start of the year (yes, yes, I was one of those people that started a new year diet, how terribly predictable). Then I fell off the diet fell onto the weight. Last weigh in (before today) was 14 stone 4lb. So on Feb 3rd I started the 5:2 diet. I fasted Monday (no breakfast, 200 cal salad for lunch, some fruit and a piece of fish for dinner). I went over the 500 cals...
