A very sad day
10 Nov 2013, 14:52
Last Sunday we rescued a cat from a guy who lives around the corner from us. We noticed he was severely underweight and covered in fleas. He was eating a drinking like a trooper to start with. Then Wednesday we took him to the vet to get a routine booster and the vets took some blood from him and it seems like it all went to hell from there. The vet said he had pancreatitis so was put on antibiotics, then the next day we were told he had kidney failure. Then he stopped eating and drinking. Today he wasn't even purring, which he did all the time. He was drooling and he was dribbling. Last night we were syringe feeding and watering him. This morning he threw it all up. We rushed him up to the vets and they looked at his blood work, they said he had severe anaemia from the kidney failure, he was suffering. We had to make the hard decision, we decided it was best for him to be euthanised. He went to sleep in my arms, very loved.

I'm absolutely heart broken. We aren't normally cat people, we have four dogs but there was something special about him. He was very loved as soon was he walked in.

The old guy is unbelievably lucky to have found someone as caring as you to take care of him when he needed it most.
You made his last few days probably the best he has had and also made the very brave decision to stop his suffering when all treatment was in vain.
I am so sorry for the sadness you feel but unbelievably glad that there are kind people out there that still love and care for animals in the way that you do.

Rest in peace kitty and much love to you Daydreamer and your family xxx

As someone who has always had dogs and, more recently, cats, I feel for you. We have stopped having our cats, as they go hunting in the fields over the road and we have lost the last four young cats to the traffic.
You did the best you could and it sounded like he wouldn't have gor that form the guy round the corner.
Do look at your local rescue and, when you're ready get another one - or three.

Sorry to hear of your sad day but what a kind thing you did - maybe you can take comfort from the fact (as others have said) that you helped to make his last days better than they would have been.

Oh daydreamer, I feel so sorry for you as I know you must be so upset. All you can do for now is take comfort in the fact that you did all you could to ease his pain and suffering. Big hugs to you for being such a kind and thoughtful person.

So sad to hear that the poor cat didn't survive. You gave him love and comfort in his last few days, if you hadn't taken him in his suffering might have dragged on for much longer.
Big hugs X

If I could stop blubbing I would tell you what a wonderful human being you are and how lucky was that little cat to find you and for you to take such care of him with love, but tears are blinding me so goodness only knows what I've typed, I just hope it makes sense
