We just discovered today that we are to have the meeting we've been expecting for a long time, about our restructure, phase 1, tomorrow morning, complete with union reps in attendence. This will involve about 8 -10 of us and we will know what the new posts will be, and whether or not we will have to apply for posts or be slotted in, and how many posts there will be. But our jobs definitely won't be the same, and there might not be enough jobs to go round.

This has been coming since 2010, when we were first told about review. Since then there have been two tranches of voluntary redundancies and early retirements. The review expected in 2011 has taken 2 years longer, and a change of management, to achieve, along with many other delays and false starts. In my case I felt the cold wind of job insecurity as far back as 4 years ago in November 2009, when my previous post was deleted, and I had to wait 4 months to have an alternative post offered.

So if you have any spare positive vibes (in @TML13's words) - lob them over in this direction tomorrow morning. Thanks.

Hi Sillver,
Thank you for your comments last night, much appreciated. Having been though it in the public service I feel for you. It isn't pretty.

I have been through it.... survived it (just) and now have a totally different 'career' as a self employed chutney maker.

Public service used to be a 'job for life' with a 'comfortable pension', but it's now a different lean beast.

SilverDarling, I'm lobbing over all my spare positive vibes (sorry, just need to keep a few for me) and I do hope all your wonderful passion is recognised and rewarded - but have plan A in reserve (I didn't, so, not knowing what to do, I made chutney; try for something more 'bookish'- and not so darn heavy on the body!)

PS - go for the best pension/redundancy you can, if needs must and use it wisely xxxx

As someone who has been made redundant twice in the last 5 years I feel for you. I'm keeping everything crossed that the restructure will be ok for you!

positive thoughts and vibes being lobbed in your direction.
It is so unsettling, and I do feel for you. I've been through two NHS restructures and what is does to morale is shocking. Eldest daughter is leaving the coastguard rather than go through the upheaval of having to reapply.
Hope all goes well for you all.

"Been made redundant" - now there's a piece of British English I would have preferred not to learn.

My husband was recently offered an early retirement incentive, which he took. We can manage without his income, and the "package" was reasonable, but it's hard to put in 30 years as a highly educated, well paid professional and then be told "we value you so little that we are willing to pay you to leave." My heart aches for him.

Sending those vibes at the speed of light, as it's now morning where you are...
