I have just been reading up on Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). There is a HUGE list of benefits which the internet claims ACV alleviates, including minimising cravings and aiding weight loss. Im VERY RELUCTANT to believe anything that says eat/ drink this and loose weight. However, so many websites outline many AVC benefits. The benefits seem to be common on the various sites, and some have an almost believable explanation as to how it helps weight loss.

ACV and diabetes, blood pressure and cancer
A long read with some myths debunked, but overall positive towards AVC
28 health and beauty benefits of apple cidar vinegar

Have you use it? Is it all it cracks up to be?
Dunno about all the other benefits, but I started taking it for sinus problems. Gradually every cold I got lessened in severity until I realised that I hardly got them anymore and if I did they were little more than a sniffle. Then I started a new job at a school and got whammied. But since then (September) I've had no more sinus issues and haven't been ill while others have. I'm convinced ACV helps with that but as for the other stuff - who knows. Oh I also use it on my hair :)
@egregious how do you take it? Does it have instructions on the bottle?
My Beau has sinus probs and maybe this will be a solution for him!
Ive never tried it as have strong aversion to anything saying vinegar in the title..bleurgh! X
@CandiceMarie I take 15 ml a day in warm water. It's rank but worth it. Just make sure you rinse your mouth afterwards so the vinegar doesn't damage the enamel on your teeth.
Sounds fun
On fast days my second drink after a cup of tean is a mug of hot no added sugar lemon squash with a slug of cider vinegar ( I use the stuff you buy in the suopermarket) and a spoonful of psylliun husk. To be honest I don't feel as if I have noticed any change although may be it does help to supress appetite
dumb question (im good at those)

is cider vinegar that you add to salads the same thing?

i bought a fancy one the other day.. different to the bottle that i use to add to my water for the quails (apparently it wards of illnesses in quail)

so can i just have salads always with cider vinegar as i like my vinegar in salads rather than water.

sorry if that made anyone laugh
There are two schools of thought. One with all of the benefits as you read on the internet. The other is that vinegar in any form is toxic because it is diluted acetic acid which can excessively stimulate the thyroid. It can also pull phosphorus from the adrenals to negate its effects leaving you with an impaired adrenal function and the endocrine system. Some say that repetitive use of vinegar can result in hardening of the liver.

If you do go for it, use the unfiltered sort with 'mother'. Higher nature sell it in the UK and Braggs in the US. Don't take too much to start with as it can have an unfortunate effect on your bowels - needless to say its good for constipation.

Overall, I'm a fan, but no longer take it as a supplement, but do use it most days when I have a salad dressing.
It's my first drink of the day, as soon as I get up I have 10ml in a pint of warm water. Helps to *ahem* get the system going and keep me regular.. However, that could just be the warm water! I started drinking it through a straw a while ago as I found my front teeth were becoming more sensitive!!
I took it for cystitus in hot water with honey and liked it so much I still drink it like that for no particular reason. I also used it to get rid of my son's verruca, and if one of the kids gets a stomach bug I take it to stay well (it has actually worked so far!)

Apart from that I use it regularly in salad dressing.

No it isn't, but neither is chronic sinusitis and I don't get it anymore so I consider it a fair trade. No there isn't proof that it works, but I've had sinus problems for years and nothing helped. Except this.

Well I use unpasteurised cider vinegar with 'the mother'. The stuff from the supermarket allegedly isn't much cop as it's had all the good stuff filtered out. I get it from Amazon in 5 litre bottles. It actually works out a little cheaper I think. It is pretty nasty, but mixed with honey is much better, which I sometimes do. I don't have it every day, cos I forget but I try to take it regularly.
I read ages ago that a small amount in bath water is also very good for your skin and is supposed to alleviate itchiness etc.
I think that it has become a big of tap fashionable thing as I've heard of someone losing a lot, but I didn't believe it. I do however give to my chooks, improves digestion. Or something. Do you @carorees ? Or anyone else with chooks.
No I don't give it to my chickens! Nor to myself.

Like 99.9% of these superfoods, the reality is light years away from the hype. If you check out the scientific papers on ACV they are about chemical burns due to taking too much and use of ACV in experiments on fruit flies!!
There is very little scientific proof for a lot of so called quack remedies. Natural/herbal supplements that don't bring in huge squids in for the pharmaceutical companies. It doesn't mean that they're not of benefit. I'm a big believer in the healing power of foods over pills. But you won't find scientific evidence for most of em. Funny that.
