Keep going DODOers!! I'm just popping in to check on you all before I set out on my vacation early tomorrow morning. Tonight will be a rough night as I try to sleep with 1 eye open as I'm afraid I'll sleep thru the alarm and miss my flight! Nervous Nellie here! :dazed:

I will really need to join you DODOers when I return as I know I'll have some extra pounds to dispense with. I also know that I must reign in the sugar monster the minute I get home. Been a bit out of control with that.

"See" you all in a couple weeks!
Have a lovely holiday @lori! We'll still be here when you get back.....so enjoy yourself!
I'm pleased to be having an eating day today. Went a bit over yesterday but still an ultra low day.
Friday tomorrow.
Hello I know this is rather late but please may I join this challenge (rather late....). I have completely fallen off the wagon since December gained 2kgs and because am not very tall it is very obvious. Reading all the posts of others on here who have also lost their way and come back gives me some hope @Hazelnut..... I know this WOE works but my fast days have just been utterly disastrous and then my feed days have been exactly that constantly feeding my face on everything carb and calorie laden food, snack, drink you name it. Been reading posts and would like to try this where I am accountable to others so I can get back on track and start losing and getting healthy. I realize I will have to fast until the 17 May.
I am also going to start training more consistently from tomorrow as well..... Just needed to speak it out loud.
May I just ask.... Does anyone use milk in their tea and coffee on a fast day?
Thanks so much :like:
I have milk, as only have skimmed or semi @skinnyli.

I've been a carb pig just lately. Only happens now and then.
Thank you @carieoates will get skimmed milk in the morning.....
I don't have milk in my tea or coffee on a fast day, but I wouldn't think the difference between skim and full fat, in the tiny amount of milk you have in a cuppa tea would make enough difference to worry about.
Hello @skinnyli - nice to see you on here.

I have milk (semi) in my tea & coffee on fast days....the kettle is my ally! I generally eat 360 calories & the rest is left for the milk to come out of.

Well done you for wanting to join the DODO challenge! Friday will be DODO Fast #6 for me & as I've probably said, I'm giving it a go in order to minimise the damage I do on non-fast days!

I'll look forward to talking more as & when - meantime, good luck!
I have had a tinny splash of milk in my tea every day - I drink lots of tea and I'm now maintaining. I'd prefer a good cuppa, rather than anything else. I guess it is the choice we make. x
Good morning DODOs. It is Fast #5 for me. I'm not travelling so well. I am going to stick with it, but I do have some concerns. Even if I do lose weight doing this, what's to say I'm not going to put it all on when I go back to regular 5:2. I can't imagine living like this for the rest of my life. It is, in fact, a diet not a lifestyle. In fact, when you lose weight on a diet you usually put on even more weight than you lost when you stop doing the diet. This worries me. I know that some people do ADF all the time, but the person I know who does this, has stopped losing weight and I think they cheat on the fast days, which I can understand because I think I might be prone to this as well. A handful of nuts won't make any difference..... etc. I haven't started overdosing on non fast days and ate pretty healthily yesterday. But I do have this sense of deprivation. What do others think about this and do any of you have longer term experience to offer?
DODO Faster #22
@Sallyo, great question, but don't be down, we are all trying something new to see how it feels.

Doesn't mean you have to stick with it. These challenges we join in with are voluntary and if you don't like it don't feel like you have to continue. I've wanted a reason to try it and even though I usually fast MWF this has shown me that weekends can undo all of the great work. Joining up to these does help me by putting it out there and having to be accountable. It's not something anyone could, would or even want to do forever, but if it sorts out our eating "head" then that's a good thing isn't it?

Also, and I'm only speaking from experience, my attitude to food has changed in such a positive way through fasting. I'm not a binge eater, over drinker, or boredham eater. But I used to believe that breakfast is essential and with the excessive carb intake I would have erratic sugar spikes which made me feel wobbly therefore thinking I needed to eat more. So even though my weight loss isn't perfect, my diet is healthier, I don't need white or refined carbs, I don't have to search food pkts for calorie content because much of what I eat is homemade, pure and simple.
Other than that I don't know anyone who's done ADF for a very long time. But nursebean and minsmum are pros.
Don't be afraid be empowered. One size doesn't suit all anyway.
I think this may be a case of 'it's not for everyone'.

I've never done ADF for long periods, but I lost 50lbs doing 4:3 which isn't so different. I find it easier to fast without long gaps in between.

I would also say, this is the diet/WOE/lifestyle/whatever that has actually been tested on humans in proper trials (as opposed to anecdotal evidence). Including the maintenance method of having 1000cals on fast days rather than 500. I don't think there's any evidence that people are more likely to regain after losing weight by this method than by any other (5:2, any other IF method or otherwise).

If it feels less sustainable to you than 5:2 maybe it's best to go back to 5:2.
Just popping in quickly because I've got lots to do today (due to computer failings and the inability to create listings for my shop!) Just to say Good luck everyone and @skinnli? Of course you can join the challenge! I'll add you on just as soon as I've achieved something with work!!
As for milk in coffee...I normally do but I'm trying to just stick with green tea and see how that goes!
Great to see you all. Will be back later...

Tutty bye!! xx
Thank you everyone I will continue to have milk on fast days however, I will ensure I count the calories I am drinking as well. I think this is where I have gone wrong.
Since starting this WOE my diet has not gotten healthier infact if anything its gotten worse on feed days but I cannot blame WOE I blame myself for consciously making a decision to eat chocolate instead a good healthy hearty meal of meat, rice & vegetables. Thats why I use 4:3 because from what i have read 5:2 would require watching TDEE on feed days which I am not prepared to do.
So now after reading a number of the posts again and having somewhat of an epiphany I am going to try to do ADF for the month by using LOF on fast days and on Feed days eating 2 healthy meals with 2 snacks of fruit, and also allowing myself a chocolate bar (that way I won't feel deprived).
Good luck with the challenge @skinnii.
@Sallyo , I am so with you on this. I was saying to Beloved the other morning that it feels as though I am on diet rather than changing the way of eating. i am being very strict; DODOing and beling ultra careful/sparing on off days in an effort to get rid of the 2kg I've gained and then try and get to the target I set yonks ago. All this before I go home too.
I feel deprived! I am hungry ( although it passes). And this is despite doing 4:3 for ages.
So, what will I do?
See what the magic number on the scale ends up being and return to 4:3. The 'strictness ' of 4:3 will depend on factors not yet decided. I refuse to calorie count and find that 4:3 suits me. At least 2 decent 500 cal fasts and the third can be a half fast/ light day// normal dinner depending on what's doing and how I feel.
This seems to be sustainable for me and fits in with my erratic lifestyle.
As long as I don't gain...
The challenge is good as it has focused me and will make me decide what to do next , as in, is maintenance calling and how to do that.
Not long until the end of April now :)
