Hello, I've been doing the 18-6 daily fasts and sometimes 20-4 and losing some good weight. Just wondering if anybody has tried fasting for 36 hours before just drinking a few coffees and lots of water?

Cheers

Hello, @Viking and welcome to the FastDay forum. It seems that your current 'window' fasting is suiting you, otherwise you would have given up by now!
There are members on here who do a 36 hour fast on liquids only. I've never tried it myself but it seems to suit some people .If you search the many threads you will find further information.
'Straight' 5:2 is my WOL and I am now maintaining, using occasional fasts when the need arises. This forum has been invaluable to me and it is a happy and informative place to hang out, so use it often!

Welcome, welcome Viking. I fast Mon/Thurs. Part of my success was giving up coffee, for me it acts like a hungry and ravenous carb monster. :clover:

That's interesting @lizbean, for me coffee is essential to get me through the fasting time, quelling any hunger and perking me up. I do have it black though...don't know if that makes a difference.

@Carorees yes, it is very interesting. I see some reach for the coffee kick and others sing the joys of herbal, builders tea etc. We've had a free fresh bean coffee machine at work since the late 1990s and I realise I have overstretched my fill! My first fast year was coffee free and during my 2nd year I have enjoyed the odd expresso, but sadly my body tells me loud and clear it's a slippery slope (just as sugar does).
I'm back on the good wagon, no coffee for me works.

Welcome Viking!
Yes, as the others have said, 36 hours liquid only is possible. That's about the limit for what we recommend as safe without a doctor's supervision.

@Lizbean - I wonder if you've hit on one of the reasons I have so much trouble with carbs. I don't think I've ever gone a day without coffee unless I was very ill -- so it's been a few years. Does black tea have the same effect on you? I have finally found some black tea that I enjoy without milk and sugar. Maybe I should experiment with this no-coffee thing you speak of.

Hi @Tracieknits black tea does not have the same effect as coffee. I love my tea and find it very refreshing with either milk or lemon. A quick search on the web and you only find a handful of people saying coffee makes them hungry. My body is certainly happier without it. Good luck with your experimenting, if you decide to.

I think I might give it a shot, considering I have some tea I really love on hand at the moment.
Thanks!
